Learning Disability Week 2019

Last years, Learning Disability Week was all about health – with a big focus on the Treat me well campaign.

Simple changes in hospital care can make a big difference – better communication, more time and clearer information.

But we know the treatment people with a learning disability get in hospital is still not good enough in many parts of the country. This has to change.

If you’re a hospital worker, be the change by becoming a Treat me well Champion.

1,200 people with a learning disability die avoidably every year. And people with a learning disability die younger than the rest of the population by 17 years on average.

This has to change, and better hospital care is a huge part of this. Sign up as a Treat me well Champion to play your part.

What will you do as a Treat me well Champion?

As a Treat me well Champion, you’ll get tailored information, access to training opportunities and campaigning resources to help you bring about change in your own hospitals.

You’ll have a chance to meet other hospital staff and people with a learning disability who want change locally and nationally.

What’s the Treat me well campaign about?

We want hospital staff to understand the simple changes that make a big difference for people with a learning disability in hospital: more time, better communication and clearer information.

We’re also calling on the Government to make training on learning disability mandatory for hospital workers.

Where can you find out more?

On the Mencap website. Visit our Treat me well pages to read the campaign report, watch video content and find out more about what’s coming soon.
