These efforts can significantly reduce the amount of plastic and waste entering the ocean.\nReduce Plastic Use: Commit to reducing your use of single-use plastics\, such as plastic bags\, bottles\, and straws. Opt for reusable alternatives and help minimize the amount of plastic waste that ends up in the ocean.\nSupport Sustainable Seafood: Choose sustainable seafood options to help protect fish populations and marine ecosystems. Look for certifications like the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) label when purchasing seafood.\nEducate Yourself and Others: Learn about the challenges facing our oceans and share that knowledge with others. Documentaries\, books\, and online resources can provide valuable insights into marine conservation.\nAdvocate for Ocean Protection: Support policies and initiatives that promote marine conservation\, such as marine protected areas and regulations to reduce ocean pollution. SUMMARY:World Saltmarsh Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:What is World Saltmarsh Day?\nWorld Saltmarsh Day is a day to celebrate the superpowers of this amazing wetland habitat. Join us in raising awareness and showing support for their restoration. \nWorld Saltmarsh Day is organised by WWT\, the charity for wetlands and wildlife. As wetland experts\, we’re working on a number of large scale saltmarsh restoration projects\, researching and sharing the benefits of these amazing habitats\, and contributing to the saltmarsh carbon code. \nAnd we need your help to shout about these precious coastal ecosystems. \nSaltmarshes are coastal wetlands that are filled and drained by the tides\, creating a unique watery mosaic of salt-tolerant plants\, creeks\, pools and grasses that host a vast array of wildlife. \nAs well as being incredible biodiversity boosters\, saltmarshes can capture carbon up to 40 times faster than forests\, absorb the energy of the tides – protecting manmade sea defences behind them – and give people a beautiful place to get close to nature. \nThese habitats have historically been seen as unproductive and drained for use as agricultural land\, or squeezed by static sea defences but we are now beginning to understand what we have lost. \nThere is good news: Saltmarshes can be restored relatively quickly\, and there is a growing consensus of the value they provide to people and nature. \nThe first World Saltmarsh Day was organised by WWT\, the charity for wetlands and wildlife\, to support restoration efforts and highlight the launch of State of the World’s Tidal Marshes report\, part of the UN Saltmarsh Breakthrough. \nWhen is World Saltmarsh Day 2026?\nIn 2026 World Saltmarsh Day will take place on the 11th June.

Although not an official public holiday\, it is widely observed across the country through family gatherings\, heartfelt messages\, and social media tributes. Many people use the day to reflect on what fatherhood means to them – whether they are honouring someone special or celebrating being a father themselves. \nWhy Father’s Day Matters\nFathers often play roles that evolve with us: teacher\, protector\, supporter\, confidant. These relationships can be meaningful\, complex\, and profoundly influential. As we grow older\, father figures may become our closest advisers or the people we turn to for grounding and wisdom. \nCelebrating Father’s Day is more than a tradition\, it’s a moment to express gratitude\, strengthen family bonds\, and recognise the individuals who have shaped our resilience\, values\, and sense of belonging. For those who have lost their fathers\, it can also be a deeply reflective day to honour their memory and celebrate the legacy they left behind. \nHow to Celebrate Father’s Day in the UK\nThere are many ways to make Father’s Day meaningful\, whether you’re celebrating near or far: \n\n\nShare Your Appreciation: Send a message\, card\, or voice note to let your dad know what he means to you. \n\n\nSpend Quality Time: Enjoy a family meal\, take a walk\, or plan an activity you both love. \n\n\nShare a Memory: Post a favourite photo or story online using the tag #FathersDayUK. \n\n\nGive a Thoughtful Gift: Something simple – from a handwritten note to a small gesture – can speak volumes. \n\n\nHonour Absent Fathers: Light a candle\, reflect on a cherished memory\, or share stories that keep their legacy alive. \n\n\nHistory of Father’s Day\nThe modern celebration of Father’s Day began in the early 20th century\, inspired by Mother’s Day. One of the earliest Father’s Day events was organised in 1910 in Spokane\, Washington\, to honour William Smart – a single father who raised six children after his wife passed away. Over time\, the observance grew and spread\, becoming an opportunity to recognise families of all kinds. \nThe UK adopted the celebration later in the century\, and it has since become a beloved tradition supported by personal stories\, family moments\, and a national appreciation for the important role fathers play. \nNoteworthy Facts About Father’s Day\n\n\nOver 8 million families in the UK include a father or father figure. \n\n\nFather’s Day is celebrated on different dates across the world\, but June remains the most common month. \n\n\nStudies show that involved father figures contribute to children’s emotional development\, confidence\, and resilience. \n\n\nThe most popular Father’s Day gifts in the UK include cards\, clothing\, meals out\, and experiences. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen is Father’s Day UK?\n\n\n\nYear\nDate\n\n\n\n\n2026\n21 June\n\n\n2027\nTBC\n\n\n2028\nTBC

SUMMARY:National Dachshund Day
DESCRIPTION:National Dachshund Day is celebrated annually on 21 June\, honouring the dachshund – one of the most recognisable and beloved dog breeds in the world. Falling on the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere\, the date is a playful nod to the breed’s famously elongated body. The day encourages dachshund owners\, breeders\, and fans to celebrate these spirited little hounds and raise awareness about the breed’s unique needs. \nWhat is National Dachshund Day?\nNational Dachshund Day is an annual celebration dedicated to the dachshund\, affectionately known as the “sausage dog” or “wiener dog.” The day recognises the breed’s rich history\, distinctive appearance\, and loyal temperament. Dachshund enthusiasts across the United States and beyond use the occasion to share photos\, organise meetups\, and educate others about responsible dachshund ownership. While the day is primarily observed in the US\, dachshund lovers worldwide have embraced the celebration. \nWhen is National Dachshund Day?\nNational Dachshund Day takes place on Saturday\, 21 June 2026. It falls on the same date every year – 21 June – which is also the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. The connection is intentional: the longest dog on the longest day of the year. \nHow to Celebrate National Dachshund Day\nThere are plenty of ways to mark the occasion\, whether you own a dachshund or simply admire the breed from afar: \n\nHost a dachshund meetup – Gather fellow dachshund owners at a local park for a “sausage dog social.” These meetups are a brilliant way for dogs to socialise and for owners to swap tips on caring for the breed.\nShare your dachshund photos online – Post your favourite snaps of your dachshund on social media. Use the hashtags to connect with the global dachshund community and brighten someone’s feed.\nDonate to a dachshund rescue – Organisations like the Dachshund Rescue of North America work tirelessly to rehome abandoned and surrendered dachshunds. A small donation can make a real difference.\nTreat your dachshund to something special – Whether it’s a new toy\, a favourite treat\, or an extra-long walk\, spoil your sausage dog on their special day.\nLearn about dachshund health – Dachshunds are prone to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) due to their long spines. Use the day to educate yourself on how to keep your dachshund’s back healthy through proper exercise and weight management.\nWatch a dachshund race – Wiener dog races are a beloved tradition in many American cities. Search for a local event or watch videos of these hilariously determined competitors online.\nVisit a dachshund museum – The Dackelmuseum (Dachshund Museum) in Passau\, Germany\, is entirely dedicated to the breed. If you can’t visit in person\, explore their collection online.\n\nHistory of National Dachshund Day\nThe exact origins of National Dachshund Day are somewhat unclear. The celebration appears to have grown organically through online dachshund communities\, possibly evolving from an earlier event called “Dachshunds on Parade” that began around the year 2000 at Central Washington University. That event\, started as a class project\, was held on the third Saturday of June – a date that sometimes coincides with 21 June. \nThe dachshund breed itself has a much longer history. Originating in Germany over 600 years ago\, dachshunds were bred to hunt badgers – their name literally translates to “badger dog” in German (“dachs” meaning badger\, “hund” meaning dog). Their long\, low bodies and powerful front paws made them ideal for digging into burrows and flushing out quarry. Over the centuries\, the breed was refined into the two sizes known today: standard (7–14 kg) and miniature (under 5 kg)\, with three coat varieties – smooth\, longhaired\, and wirehaired. \nDachshunds arrived in the United States in the late 19th century and quickly became popular family pets. Despite a dip in popularity during the World Wars (owing to their German heritage)\, they bounced back to become one of America’s favourite breeds. In 2025\, the American Kennel Club ranked dachshunds as the fifth most popular breed in the US – the first time they had entered the top five since the 1990s. \nNoteworthy Facts About Dachshunds\n\nThe dachshund was the first Olympic mascot – “Waldi\,” a colourful dachshund\, served as the official mascot of the 1972 Munich Olympic Games.\nDachshunds come in over 15 colour and pattern combinations\, including red\, black and tan\, chocolate\, dapple\, and piebald.\nAs many as 25% of dachshunds develop intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) during their lifetime\, making back health a priority for owners.\nThe typical dachshund lifespan is 12–16 years\, longer than many breeds of similar size.\nQueen Victoria was famously fond of dachshunds and is credited with boosting the breed’s popularity in Britain during the 19th century.\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\nWhat is National Dachshund Day?\nNational Dachshund Day is an annual celebration on 21 June that honours the dachshund breed. It’s a day for owners\, breeders\, and fans to share their love for these distinctive dogs and raise awareness about the breed. \nWhen is National Dachshund Day in 2026?\nNational Dachshund Day falls on Saturday\, 21 June 2026. SUMMARY:Canada Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:Every year on July 1st\, communities across Canada come alive with celebration\, reflection\, and national pride. Canada Day marks the anniversary of the formation of the country we know today – and in 2026\, it offers another powerful moment to honour the past\, celebrate the present\, and imagine a better future. Whether it’s fireworks in Vancouver\, concerts in Ottawa\, or quiet moments of gratitude at home\, Canada Day invites people of all backgrounds to connect with the meaning of being Canadian. \nWhat is Canada Day?\nCanada Day commemorates the confederation of Canada\, when the British North America Act (now called the Constitution Act) came into effect on July 1\, 1867. It united the provinces of Ontario\, Quebec\, New Brunswick\, and Nova Scotia into one country under a federal government. Over time\, Canada grew to include all ten provinces and three territories\, developing its own identity distinct from its colonial roots. \nWhile the day is often associated with red-and-white flags\, barbecues\, and public festivities\, it’s also a time for reflection – especially for Indigenous communities whose histories predate Confederation by thousands of years. Many people now use Canada Day to learn\, listen\, and commit to reconciliation and justice alongside celebration. \nWhen is Canada Day 2026?\nCanada Day 2026 takes place on Tuesday\, July 1. As a statutory holiday nationwide\, most workplaces\, schools\, and government offices will be closed. Cities and towns across the country will host free public events ranging from parades and concerts to citizenship ceremonies and historical exhibits. In many places\, the day ends with fireworks displays and communal gatherings in parks or on waterfronts. \nWhy Canada Day Matters\nCanada Day is more than just a birthday. It’s a chance to examine the values Canada stands for – inclusion\, diversity\, democracy\, and peace – and to consider how well we live up to those ideals. It’s a time to recognise the achievements and contributions of people across the country\, from First Nations\, Inuit and Métis communities to immigrants and refugees building new lives. \nIt also offers a space to acknowledge painful truths: the legacy of residential schools\, broken treaties\, and ongoing systemic injustices. Many Canadians now mark the day with both pride and reflection\, recognising that national identity includes joy and responsibility in equal measure. \nHow to Get Involved in Canada Day 2026\nWhether you’re attending a public celebration or staying closer to home\, there are many ways to engage: \n\nJoin a Local Event: Look for parades\, live music\, art exhibits\, and fireworks in your community.\nSupport Indigenous Voices: Attend Indigenous-led events\, learn about local Nations\, or support Indigenous artists and organisations.\nHost a Gathering: Invite friends and neighbours for a meal\, conversation\, or shared activity that reflects Canadian values.\nLearn and Reflect: Read a book by a Canadian author\, explore history resources\, or listen to stories from people of diverse backgrounds.\nVolunteer: Help out at a Canada Day event or community centre\, or find a local initiative that aligns with your values.\n\nHistory of Canada Day\nThe holiday was originally called Dominion Day\, marking the creation of the Dominion of Canada on July 1\, 1867. Over the years\, it evolved into a broader national celebration\, and in 1982 – the same year the Constitution was patriated from the UK – the holiday was officially renamed Canada Day. The change reflected Canada’s growing independence and multicultural identity. \nToday\, the day continues to evolve. In recent years\, more Canadians have used it to reckon with the country’s colonial legacy\, particularly in light of the findings of unmarked graves at former residential schools. As a result\, Canada Day has become a more nuanced\, inclusive observance that encourages celebration\, education\, and action. \nNoteworthy Facts About Canada Day\n\nThe first official Dominion Day celebrations were held in 1868\, just one year after Confederation.\nCanada Day became a statutory holiday in 1879 but wasn’t widely celebrated until the late 20th century.\nMore than 85% of Canadians now participate in some form of Canada Day activity.\nThe national Canada Day event in Ottawa typically includes performances by top Canadian artists and a flyover by the Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds.\nJuly 1 is also Moving Day in Quebec\, when many residential leases expire and people relocate – creating a unique local twist on the holiday.\n\nHashtags\n#CanadaDay\, #CanadaDay2026\, #ProudToBeCanadian\, #ReflectAndCelebrate \nLinks\n\nGovernment of Canada – Canada Day\nLearn about Indigenous Peoples in Canada\nCanadian Museum of History

DESCRIPTION:Disability Pride Month is observed every July to celebrate the diversity\, culture\, and rights of people with disabilities. It is a time to promote visibility\, challenge outdated stereotypes\, and honour the achievements and contributions of the disability community. The idea expanded into a month-long celebration in cities like New York\, San Francisco\, and Chicago\, eventually spreading through national and international advocacy networks. While it remains more prominent in the U.S.\, recognition is growing globally as more organisations\, cities\, and governments acknowledge July as a time to promote disability pride and visibility. \nKey Facts About Disability and Inclusion\n\n1 in 6 people globally live with some form of disability.\nDisability Pride flags and symbols help represent the diversity within the community\, including physical\, cognitive\, sensory\, and invisible disabilities.\nThe disability rights movement shares roots with civil rights and LGBTQ+ movements\, fighting for visibility\, accessibility\, and equality.\nMany disabilities are not visible – awareness includes understanding chronic illness\, neurodivergence\, and mental health conditions.\nAccessibility benefits everyone\, not just people with disabilities – it improves design\, communication\, and innovation.\n\nHashtags\n#DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityPride #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #AccessibleForAll #InclusionMatters \nLinks\n\nAccess Living\nDisability Rights California\nADA National Network\nUnited Nations – Disability Inclusion\n\nWhen is Disability Pride Month 2026?\n\n\n\nYear\nStart Date\nEnd Date\n\n\n\n\n2026\n1 July\n31 July\n\n\n2027\nTBC\nTBC\n\n\n2028\nTBC\nTBC

SUMMARY:UV Safety Awareness Month 2026
DESCRIPTION:UV Safety Awareness Month is observed every July to highlight the importance of protecting our skin and eyes from the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. As the sun shines brightest during the summer months\, this campaign reminds us of the risks associated with overexposure and promotes safe sun habits that help prevent skin cancer\, premature aging\, and eye damage. \nWhat is UV Safety Awareness Month?\nUV Safety Awareness Month is a national health observance that focuses on educating the public about the dangers of UV radiation from the sun and artificial sources like tanning beds. It encourages individuals to adopt practical\, preventative measures to reduce their risk of skin cancer and other UV-related health conditions. The month is supported by health organisations\, dermatologists\, and public health campaigns across the country. \nWhen is UV Safety Awareness Month?\nThis health observance takes place throughout the month of July\, when UV levels are at their annual peak in the northern hemisphere. The timing is intentional\, aligning with the increased amount of time many people spend outdoors during summer holidays\, school breaks\, and recreational activities. \nWhy UV Safety Awareness Month matters\nExposure to UV radiation is the primary cause of skin cancer – the most common cancer in the United States. It also contributes to premature skin aging\, sunburns\, and eye conditions such as cataracts. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. By promoting early awareness and simple preventive steps\, UV Safety Awareness Month plays a vital role in reducing long-term health risks associated with sun exposure. \nSunshine\, sunscreen\, and smiles – a perfect beach day moment\nHow to get involved in UV Safety Awareness Month\n\nWear broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day\, even on cloudy days.\nUse protective clothing\, wide-brimmed hats\, and UV-blocking sunglasses when outdoors.\nSeek shade during peak sun hours\, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.\nAvoid tanning beds and opt for sunless tanning products if desired.\nSchedule regular skin checks with a dermatologist and perform self-exams at home.\nEducate children about sun safety early to help them build lifelong habits.\n\nHistory of UV Safety Awareness Month\nUV Safety Awareness Month was established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and supported by organisations such as the American Academy of Dermatology\, Skin Cancer Foundation\, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It was created to reduce the growing incidence of UV-related skin damage and skin cancer diagnoses through public education and accessible sun safety practices. \nFacts About UV Radiation and Skin Health\n\nUV-A rays penetrate deep into the skin and are associated with skin aging and wrinkles.\nUV-B rays affect the skin’s surface and are the primary cause of sunburn.\nMelanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer but is highly preventable with proper protection.\nWater\, sand\, snow\, and concrete all reflect UV rays\, increasing your risk even in shaded areas.\nDaily sunscreen use can reduce your risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma by about 40%.\n\nHashtags\n#UVSafetyMonth #SkinCancerPrevention #SunSafe #ProtectYourSkin #SPF365 \nLinks\n\nAmerican Academy of Dermatology – Skin Cancer Prevention\nSkin Cancer Foundation\nCDC – UV Radiation and Skin Cancer\nAmerican Cancer Society – Sun Safety

SUMMARY:Fibroids Awareness Month 2026
DESCRIPTION:Fibroids Awareness Month is observed throughout July to raise awareness of uterine fibroids – noncancerous growths of the uterus that affect millions of women worldwide. The month shines a spotlight on a commonly misunderstood health condition\, aiming to improve public understanding\, reduce stigma\, and advocate for better care and treatment options. \nWhat is Fibroids Awareness Month?\nFibroids Awareness Month is a public health campaign focused on uterine fibroids\, also known as leiomyomas or myomas. These benign tumours can vary in size and severity and are most common in women of reproductive age. While often overlooked or minimised\, fibroids can have a significant impact on quality of life\, causing symptoms like heavy menstrual bleeding\, pain\, fatigue\, and fertility issues. The month-long observance is a platform to encourage education\, research\, diagnosis\, and support for those affected. \nWhen is Fibroids Awareness Month?\nFibroids Awareness Month is recognised in the United States and several other countries every July. In 2026\, it runs from July 1st to July 31st. The observance was originally launched through efforts by advocacy groups and women’s health organisations to address disparities in fibroid care and ensure women receive the attention and treatment they need. \nWhy Fibroids Awareness Month matters\nUterine fibroids are extremely common – affecting as many as 70% to 80% of women by age 50 – yet they often go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for years. The condition disproportionately affects Black women\, who are more likely to experience fibroids at a younger age and with more severe symptoms. Fibroids Awareness Month helps to dismantle the silence surrounding the condition\, encourage earlier intervention\, and empower women to seek appropriate medical care and support. \nHow to get involved in Fibroids Awareness Month\n\nLearn about fibroids – including symptoms\, risk factors\, and available treatments.\nShare your story or encourage others to speak openly about their experiences with fibroids.\nSupport fibroid research by donating to or promoting organisations focused on women’s health.\nHost or attend educational webinars or community forums on uterine health.\nEncourage healthcare providers to take menstrual and pelvic pain complaints seriously.\nUse social media to raise awareness and amplify advocacy efforts using the campaign hashtags.\n\nHistory of Fibroids Awareness Month\nFibroids Awareness Month began as a grassroots movement and has grown into a national health initiative in the U.S. The campaign was created to address the lack of public conversation and medical urgency around fibroids. Over time\, it has been supported by medical associations\, advocacy groups like The White Dress Project\, and legislation promoting fibroid education and research. Awareness efforts continue to grow\, highlighting the need for inclusive\, accessible\, and effective fibroid care. \nKey Facts About Uterine Fibroids\n\nFibroids are noncancerous tumours that develop in or on the uterus and are hormonally sensitive.\nSymptoms include prolonged periods\, pelvic pressure\, frequent urination\, pain during intercourse\, and infertility.\nBlack women are 2 to 3 times more likely to develop fibroids and often experience more severe symptoms.\nCommon treatments include medication\, hormonal therapy\, myomectomy (surgical removal)\, and uterine fibroid embolization (UFE).\nDespite how common they are\, fibroids are still underfunded in research and under-discussed in medical training.\n\nHashtags\n#FibroidsAwarenessMonth #FibroidFacts #TalkAboutFibroids #WomensHealthMatters #BlackWomenHealth \nLinks\n\nNIH – Uterine Fibroids\nThe White Dress Project\nACOG – Uterine Fibroids\nOffice on Women’s Health

SUMMARY:#Accessible Outdoors Month 2026
DESCRIPTION:What is #AccessibleOutdoors Month?\nBack for its second year\, #AccessibleOutdoors Month is a celebration of inclusive outdoor activity\, disabled sport\, and making the great outdoors open to everyone. \nLaunched in 2024 and returning this 1–31 July 2026\, the campaign shines a spotlight on how disabled people across the UK are getting active outside – from adaptive mountain biking and accessible walks to inclusive water sports and cycling adventures. \nLast year’s mini-documentary series captured the freedom\, joy\, and possibility that come from inclusive design and supportive communities. This year\, we’re going even bigger – and we want you to be part of it. \nWhen is #AccessibleOutdoors Month?\n#AccessibleOutdoors Month runs from 1st July to 31st July 2026\, and it’s all about celebrating real stories of disabled people enjoying nature\, getting active in ways that work for them\, and building a more accessible outdoors for all. \nHow to Get Involved\nThere are so many ways to join the movement this July. Here’s how you can take part: \n1. Follow the journey \nFollow @EveryBodyMoves throughout July for weekly spotlight stories\, featuring disabled people being active outdoors across the UK – told by the community\, for the community. \n2. Share your story \nGot a local event\, walk\, or adaptive sport session happening? Share it! Use #AccessibleOutdoors and tag @EveryBodyMoves to be featured. Whether you’re out with a group or doing your own thing\, we want to see how you’re getting active in nature. \n3. Catch up on last year \nNot sure what to expect? Last year’s 5 episodes explored everything from all-terrain wheelchair walks to inclusive inland waters and beach access. Watch the full series and get inspired. \nWhy It Matters \nNature should be for everyone – but 56% of disabled people say outdoor spaces aren’t easy to access\, compared to just 22% of non-disabled people. From physical and environmental barriers to affordability and rural access\, the gap is real – and it’s time to change that. \nDespite these challenges\, 76% of disabled people want to be more active. Accessible\, affordable outdoor spaces make that possible. That’s why this campaign matters. \n(Source: Activity Alliance’s Annual Disability and Activity Survey 2023–24) \nGot an Idea? \nIf you’re planning something special or want to collaborate during #AccessibleOutdoors Month\, the Every Body Moves team would love to hear from you.
