SUMMARY:World Saltmarsh Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:What is World Saltmarsh Day?\nWorld Saltmarsh Day is a day to celebrate the superpowers of this amazing wetland habitat. Join us in raising awareness and showing support for their restoration. \nWorld Saltmarsh Day is organised by WWT\, the charity for wetlands and wildlife. As wetland experts\, we’re working on a number of large scale saltmarsh restoration projects\, researching and sharing the benefits of these amazing habitats\, and contributing to the saltmarsh carbon code. \nAnd we need your help to shout about these precious coastal ecosystems. \nSaltmarshes are coastal wetlands that are filled and drained by the tides\, creating a unique watery mosaic of salt-tolerant plants\, creeks\, pools and grasses that host a vast array of wildlife. \nAs well as being incredible biodiversity boosters\, saltmarshes can capture carbon up to 40 times faster than forests\, absorb the energy of the tides – protecting manmade sea defences behind them – and give people a beautiful place to get close to nature. \nThese habitats have historically been seen as unproductive and drained for use as agricultural land\, or squeezed by static sea defences but we are now beginning to understand what we have lost. \nThere is good news: Saltmarshes can be restored relatively quickly\, and there is a growing consensus of the value they provide to people and nature. \nThe first World Saltmarsh Day was organised by WWT\, the charity for wetlands and wildlife\, to support restoration efforts and highlight the launch of State of the World’s Tidal Marshes report\, part of the UN Saltmarsh Breakthrough. \nWhen is World Saltmarsh Day 2026?\nIn 2026 World Saltmarsh Day will take place on the 11th June.

SUMMARY:Flexible Working Awareness Day
DESCRIPTION:Flexible Working Awareness Day is an annual celebration that highlights the importance and impact of flexible work arrangements. Observed on June 21\, it encourages employers\, employees\, and policymakers to champion workplace flexibility as a pathway to wellbeing\, inclusion\, and productivity. \nWhat is Flexible Working Awareness Day?\nThis day shines a light on the various ways people can work beyond the traditional 9-to-5. From part-time roles and compressed hours to remote work and job sharing\, flexible working opens doors for people managing childcare\, health needs\, education\, or phased retirement. It’s a time to share stories\, showcase successful policies\, and remind the world that one-size-fits-all work no longer fits most. \nWhen is Flexible Working Awareness Day?\nFlexible Working Awareness Day takes place each year on June 21 – the summer solstice. The choice of date reflects the theme of balance\, renewal\, and change. In 2026\, it falls on a Saturday\, offering the chance for both reflective and practical events online and in workplaces across the UK and beyond. \nWhy Flexible Working Awareness Day Matters\nFlexible working isn’t just a perk – it’s a lifeline. It helps carers stay employed\, reduces stress and burnout\, supports people with disabilities or chronic conditions\, and creates fairer access to meaningful careers. For businesses\, it improves retention\, productivity\, and diversity. This day challenges outdated assumptions about what “good work” looks like and makes space for healthier\, more inclusive futures. \nHow to Get Involved in Flexible Working Awareness Day\n\nShare your experience: Post a story on social media about how flexible work has helped you or someone you know.\nAudit your workplace: HR teams and managers can review policies and ask how flexibility can be increased.\nHost a discussion: Organise a lunch-and-learn\, team Q&A\, or webinar about different flexible work models.\nTrial a flex day: Encourage teams to try remote or adjusted hours for one day and reflect on the experience.\nChampion good practice: Celebrate companies and leaders who are setting the standard for modern\, human-first workplaces.\n\nHistory of Flexible Working Awareness Day\nFlexible Working Awareness Day was established to promote better understanding and uptake of flexible work. While the UK has had a legal right to request flexible working since 2003\, cultural and structural barriers have slowed progress. The day was founded to shift the narrative – from flexibility as a favour to flexibility as a fundamental. In recent years\, especially post-2020\, the campaign has gained momentum as more people recognise the value of work that adapts to life. \nNoteworthy Facts About Flexible Working Awareness Day\n\nOne in seven working adults in the UK is also a carer – flexible working helps them stay employed.\nThe right to request flexible working from day one of a job became UK law in 2022.\nOver 40% of UK workers engage in some form of flexible or hybrid work.\nFlexible work improves employee satisfaction and is linked to reduced absenteeism and burnout.\nMore inclusive flexibility can close gender pay gaps\, support disabled workers\, and extend career longevity.\n\nHashtags\n#FlexibleWorkingDay\, #FlexByDesign\, #WorkLifeBalance \nLinks\n\nVisit the official Flexible Working Day site\nInclusive Employers – Flexible Working Events\nACAS – UK Flexible Working Rights

Whether you grew up with a dad who coached your first team\, fixed every broken toy\, or simply offered a steady presence through life’s ups and downs\, this day is a reminder to appreciate the father figures who have walked beside us. From shared jokes and life lessons to quiet acts of love that often go unnoticed\, Father’s Day honours the bonds that help build who we become. \nWhat Is Father’s Day?\nFather’s Day is dedicated to recognising and appreciating fathers\, stepfathers\, grandfathers\, guardians\, and all men who take on nurturing and supportive roles. It’s a chance to reflect on the memories that shaped us\, say thank you for the guidance we’ve received\, and celebrate the everyday heroes within our families. Many mark the occasion by giving cards\, sharing a meal\, or simply spending time with the father figures who matter most. \nThis day isn’t limited to biological fathers; it embraces adoptive dads\, foster carers\, mentors\, and anyone who offers paternal support. Whether your relationship is full of laughter\, learning\, or love from afar\, it’s an opportunity to acknowledge the impact these figures have had on your life. \nWhen Is Father’s Day in the UK?\nIn the United Kingdom\, Father’s Day is celebrated every year on the third Sunday of June. Although not an official public holiday\, it is widely observed across the country through family gatherings\, heartfelt messages\, and social media tributes. Many people use the day to reflect on what fatherhood means to them – whether they are honouring someone special or celebrating being a father themselves. \nWhy Father’s Day Matters\nFathers often play roles that evolve with us: teacher\, protector\, supporter\, confidant. SUMMARY:National Dachshund Day
DESCRIPTION:National Dachshund Day is celebrated annually on 21 June\, honouring the dachshund – one of the most recognisable and beloved dog breeds in the world. Falling on the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere\, the date is a playful nod to the breed’s famously elongated body. The day encourages dachshund owners\, breeders\, and fans to celebrate these spirited little hounds and raise awareness about the breed’s unique needs. \nWhat is National Dachshund Day?\nNational Dachshund Day is an annual celebration dedicated to the dachshund\, affectionately known as the “sausage dog” or “wiener dog.” The day recognises the breed’s rich history\, distinctive appearance\, and loyal temperament. Dachshund enthusiasts across the United States and beyond use the occasion to share photos\, organise meetups\, and educate others about responsible dachshund ownership. While the day is primarily observed in the US\, dachshund lovers worldwide have embraced the celebration. \nWhen is National Dachshund Day?\nNational Dachshund Day takes place on Saturday\, 21 June 2026. It falls on the same date every year – 21 June – which is also the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. The connection is intentional: the longest dog on the longest day of the year. \nHow to Celebrate National Dachshund Day\nThere are plenty of ways to mark the occasion\, whether you own a dachshund or simply admire the breed from afar: \n\nHost a dachshund meetup – Gather fellow dachshund owners at a local park for a “sausage dog social.” These meetups are a brilliant way for dogs to socialise and for owners to swap tips on caring for the breed.\nShare your dachshund photos online – Post your favourite snaps of your dachshund on social media. Use the hashtags to connect with the global dachshund community and brighten someone’s feed.\nDonate to a dachshund rescue – Organisations like the Dachshund Rescue of North America work tirelessly to rehome abandoned and surrendered dachshunds. A small donation can make a real difference.\nTreat your dachshund to something special – Whether it’s a new toy\, a favourite treat\, or an extra-long walk\, spoil your sausage dog on their special day.\nLearn about dachshund health – Dachshunds are prone to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) due to their long spines. Use the day to educate yourself on how to keep your dachshund’s back healthy through proper exercise and weight management.\nWatch a dachshund race – Wiener dog races are a beloved tradition in many American cities. Search for a local event or watch videos of these hilariously determined competitors online.\nVisit a dachshund museum – The Dackelmuseum (Dachshund Museum) in Passau\, Germany\, is entirely dedicated to the breed. If you can’t visit in person\, explore their collection online.\n\nHistory of National Dachshund Day\nThe exact origins of National Dachshund Day are somewhat unclear. The celebration appears to have grown organically through online dachshund communities\, possibly evolving from an earlier event called “Dachshunds on Parade” that began around the year 2000 at Central Washington University. That event\, started as a class project\, was held on the third Saturday of June – a date that sometimes coincides with 21 June. \nThe dachshund breed itself has a much longer history. Originating in Germany over 600 years ago\, dachshunds were bred to hunt badgers – their name literally translates to “badger dog” in German (“dachs” meaning badger\, “hund” meaning dog). Their long\, low bodies and powerful front paws made them ideal for digging into burrows and flushing out quarry. Over the centuries\, the breed was refined into the two sizes known today: standard (7–14 kg) and miniature (under 5 kg)\, with three coat varieties – smooth\, longhaired\, and wirehaired. \nDachshunds arrived in the United States in the late 19th century and quickly became popular family pets. Despite a dip in popularity during the World Wars (owing to their German heritage)\, they bounced back to become one of America’s favourite breeds. In 2025\, the American Kennel Club ranked dachshunds as the fifth most popular breed in the US – the first time they had entered the top five since the 1990s. \nNoteworthy Facts About Dachshunds\n\nThe dachshund was the first Olympic mascot – “Waldi\,” a colourful dachshund\, served as the official mascot of the 1972 Munich Olympic Games.\nDachshunds come in over 15 colour and pattern combinations\, including red\, black and tan\, chocolate\, dapple\, and piebald.\nAs many as 25% of dachshunds develop intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) during their lifetime\, making back health a priority for owners.\nThe typical dachshund lifespan is 12–16 years\, longer than many breeds of similar size.\nQueen Victoria was famously fond of dachshunds and is credited with boosting the breed’s popularity in Britain during the 19th century.\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\nWhat is National Dachshund Day?\nNational Dachshund Day is an annual celebration on 21 June that honours the dachshund breed. SUMMARY:Canada Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:Every year on July 1st\, communities across Canada come alive with celebration\, reflection\, and national pride. Canada Day marks the anniversary of the formation of the country we know today – and in 2026\, it offers another powerful moment to honour the past\, celebrate the present\, and imagine a better future. Whether it’s fireworks in Vancouver\, concerts in Ottawa\, or quiet moments of gratitude at home\, Canada Day invites people of all backgrounds to connect with the meaning of being Canadian. \nWhat is Canada Day?\nCanada Day commemorates the confederation of Canada\, when the British North America Act (now called the Constitution Act) came into effect on July 1\, 1867. It united the provinces of Ontario\, Quebec\, New Brunswick\, and Nova Scotia into one country under a federal government. Over time\, Canada grew to include all ten provinces and three territories\, developing its own identity distinct from its colonial roots. \nWhile the day is often associated with red-and-white flags\, barbecues\, and public festivities\, it’s also a time for reflection – especially for Indigenous communities whose histories predate Confederation by thousands of years. Many people now use Canada Day to learn\, listen\, and commit to reconciliation and justice alongside celebration. \nWhen is Canada Day 2026?\nCanada Day 2026 takes place on Tuesday\, July 1. As a statutory holiday nationwide\, most workplaces\, schools\, and government offices will be closed. Cities and towns across the country will host free public events ranging from parades and concerts to citizenship ceremonies and historical exhibits. In many places\, the day ends with fireworks displays and communal gatherings in parks or on waterfronts. \nWhy Canada Day Matters\nCanada Day is more than just a birthday. It’s a chance to examine the values Canada stands for – inclusion\, diversity\, democracy\, and peace – and to consider how well we live up to those ideals. It’s a time to recognise the achievements and contributions of people across the country\, from First Nations\, Inuit and Métis communities to immigrants and refugees building new lives. \nIt also offers a space to acknowledge painful truths: the legacy of residential schools\, broken treaties\, and ongoing systemic injustices. Many Canadians now mark the day with both pride and reflection\, recognising that national identity includes joy and responsibility in equal measure. \nHow to Get Involved in Canada Day 2026\nWhether you’re attending a public celebration or staying closer to home\, there are many ways to engage: \n\nJoin a Local Event: Look for parades\, live music\, art exhibits\, and fireworks in your community.\nSupport Indigenous Voices: Attend Indigenous-led events\, learn about local Nations\, or support Indigenous artists and organisations.\nHost a Gathering: Invite friends and neighbours for a meal\, conversation\, or shared activity that reflects Canadian values.\nLearn and Reflect: Read a book by a Canadian author\, explore history resources\, or listen to stories from people of diverse backgrounds.\nVolunteer: Help out at a Canada Day event or community centre\, or find a local initiative that aligns with your values.\n\nHistory of Canada Day\nThe holiday was originally called Dominion Day\, marking the creation of the Dominion of Canada on July 1\, 1867. Over the years\, it evolved into a broader national celebration\, and in 1982 – the same year the Constitution was patriated from the UK – the holiday was officially renamed Canada Day. The change reflected Canada’s growing independence and multicultural identity. \nToday\, the day continues to evolve. In recent years\, more Canadians have used it to reckon with the country’s colonial legacy\, particularly in light of the findings of unmarked graves at former residential schools. As a result\, Canada Day has become a more nuanced\, inclusive observance that encourages celebration\, education\, and action. \nNoteworthy Facts About Canada Day\n\nThe first official Dominion Day celebrations were held in 1868\, just one year after Confederation.\nCanada Day became a statutory holiday in 1879 but wasn’t widely celebrated until the late 20th century.\nMore than 85% of Canadians now participate in some form of Canada Day activity.\nThe national Canada Day event in Ottawa typically includes performances by top Canadian artists and a flyover by the Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds.\nJuly 1 is also Moving Day in Quebec\, when many residential leases expire and people relocate – creating a unique local twist on the holiday.\n\nHashtags\n#CanadaDay\, #CanadaDay2026\, #ProudToBeCanadian\, #ReflectAndCelebrate \nLinks\n\nGovernment of Canada – Canada Day\nLearn about Indigenous Peoples in Canada\nCanadian Museum of History

SUMMARY:Disability Pride Month 2026
DESCRIPTION:Disability Pride Month is observed every July to celebrate the diversity\, culture\, and rights of people with disabilities. It is a time to promote visibility\, challenge outdated stereotypes\, and honour the achievements and contributions of the disability community. More than just awareness\, Disability Pride Month is a call to action for inclusion\, accessibility\, and equality. \nWhat is Disability Pride Month?\nDisability Pride Month is a month-long celebration that recognises the identities and experiences of disabled individuals. It promotes disability as a natural and valuable part of human diversity\, not something to be hidden or fixed. The month encourages people to take pride in who they are and aims to create a more inclusive and understanding society. Events throughout the month include pride parades\, awareness campaigns\, advocacy initiatives\, and community gatherings. \nWhen is Disability Pride Month?\nDisability Pride Month is celebrated throughout the entire month of July. The month was chosen in commemoration of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26\, 1990 – a landmark civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability in the United States. While it originated in the U.S.\, the message of Disability Pride Month resonates globally. \nWhy Disability Pride Month matters\nThere are over 1 billion people worldwide living with disabilities\, yet stigma\, inaccessibility\, and systemic exclusion persist. Disability Pride Month provides an opportunity to uplift disabled voices\, advocate for equal rights\, and reframe disability as an identity that deserves respect and celebration. It challenges ableism and inspires positive change in education\, employment\, media representation\, and policy. \nHow to get involved in Disability Pride Month\n\nLearn about disability rights history and the impact of the ADA or similar legislation in your country.\nAttend or support Disability Pride events\, whether in person or online.\nRead\, watch\, or listen to work by disabled creators\, authors\, artists\, and activists.\nMake your workplace\, organisation\, or digital platforms more accessible.\nUse inclusive language and challenge stereotypes when you encounter them.\nShare content about Disability Pride and raise awareness on social media using official hashtags.\n\nHistory of Disability Pride Month\nThe first official Disability Pride Day was held in Boston in 1990\, the same year the ADA was signed into law. The idea expanded into a month-long celebration in cities like New York\, San Francisco\, and Chicago\, eventually spreading through national and international advocacy networks. While it remains more prominent in the U.S.\, recognition is growing globally as more organisations\, cities\, and governments acknowledge July as a time to promote disability pride and visibility. \nKey Facts About Disability and Inclusion\n\n1 in 6 people globally live with some form of disability.\nDisability Pride flags and symbols help represent the diversity within the community\, including physical\, cognitive\, sensory\, and invisible disabilities.\nThe disability rights movement shares roots with civil rights and LGBTQ+ movements\, fighting for visibility\, accessibility\, and equality.\nMany disabilities are not visible – awareness includes understanding chronic illness\, neurodivergence\, and mental health conditions.\nAccessibility benefits everyone\, not just people with disabilities – it improves design\, communication\, and innovation.\n\nHashtags\n#DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityPride #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #AccessibleForAll #InclusionMatters \nLinks\n\nAccess Living\nDisability Rights California\nADA National Network\nUnited Nations – Disability Inclusion\n\nWhen is Disability Pride Month 2026?\n\n\n\nYear\nStart Date\nEnd Date\n\n\n\n\n2026\n1 July\n31 July\n\n\n2027\nTBC\nTBC\n\n\n2028\nTBC\nTBC

SUMMARY:UV Safety Awareness Month 2026
DESCRIPTION:UV Safety Awareness Month is observed every July to highlight the importance of protecting our skin and eyes from the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. As the sun shines brightest during the summer months\, this campaign reminds us of the risks associated with overexposure and promotes safe sun habits that help prevent skin cancer\, premature aging\, and eye damage. \nWhat is UV Safety Awareness Month?\nUV Safety Awareness Month is a national health observance that focuses on educating the public about the dangers of UV radiation from the sun and artificial sources like tanning beds. It encourages individuals to adopt practical\, preventative measures to reduce their risk of skin cancer and other UV-related health conditions. The month is supported by health organisations\, dermatologists\, and public health campaigns across the country. \nWhen is UV Safety Awareness Month?\nThis health observance takes place throughout the month of July\, when UV levels are at their annual peak in the northern hemisphere. The timing is intentional\, aligning with the increased amount of time many people spend outdoors during summer holidays\, school breaks\, and recreational activities. \nWhy UV Safety Awareness Month matters\nExposure to UV radiation is the primary cause of skin cancer – the most common cancer in the United States. It also contributes to premature skin aging\, sunburns\, and eye conditions such as cataracts. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. By promoting early awareness and simple preventive steps\, UV Safety Awareness Month plays a vital role in reducing long-term health risks associated with sun exposure. \nSunshine\, sunscreen\, and smiles – a perfect beach day moment\nHow to get involved in UV Safety Awareness Month\n\nWear broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day\, even on cloudy days.\nUse protective clothing\, wide-brimmed hats\, and UV-blocking sunglasses when outdoors.\nSeek shade during peak sun hours\, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.\nAvoid tanning beds and opt for sunless tanning products if desired.\nSchedule regular skin checks with a dermatologist and perform self-exams at home.\nEducate children about sun safety early to help them build lifelong habits.\n\nHistory of UV Safety Awareness Month\nUV Safety Awareness Month was established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and supported by organisations such as the American Academy of Dermatology\, Skin Cancer Foundation\, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It was created to reduce the growing incidence of UV-related skin damage and skin cancer diagnoses through public education and accessible sun safety practices. \nFacts About UV Radiation and Skin Health\n\nUV-A rays penetrate deep into the skin and are associated with skin aging and wrinkles.\nUV-B rays affect the skin’s surface and are the primary cause of sunburn.\nMelanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer but is highly preventable with proper protection.\nWater\, sand\, snow\, and concrete all reflect UV rays\, increasing your risk even in shaded areas.\nDaily sunscreen use can reduce your risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma by about 40%.\n\nHashtags\n#UVSafetyMonth #SkinCancerPrevention #SunSafe #ProtectYourSkin #SPF365 \nLinks\n\nAmerican Academy of Dermatology – Skin Cancer Prevention\nSkin Cancer Foundation\nCDC – UV Radiation and Skin Cancer\nAmerican Cancer Society – Sun Safety

SUMMARY:Fibroids Awareness Month 2026
DESCRIPTION:Fibroids Awareness Month is observed throughout July to raise awareness of uterine fibroids – noncancerous growths of the uterus that affect millions of women worldwide. The month shines a spotlight on a commonly misunderstood health condition\, aiming to improve public understanding\, reduce stigma\, and advocate for better care and treatment options. \nWhat is Fibroids Awareness Month?\nFibroids Awareness Month is a public health campaign focused on uterine fibroids\, also known as leiomyomas or myomas. These benign tumours can vary in size and severity and are most common in women of reproductive age. While often overlooked or minimised\, fibroids can have a significant impact on quality of life\, causing symptoms like heavy menstrual bleeding\, pain\, fatigue\, and fertility issues. The month-long observance is a platform to encourage education\, research\, diagnosis\, and support for those affected. \nWhen is Fibroids Awareness Month?\nFibroids Awareness Month is recognised in the United States and several other countries every July. In 2026\, it runs from July 1st to July 31st. The observance was originally launched through efforts by advocacy groups and women’s health organisations to address disparities in fibroid care and ensure women receive the attention and treatment they need. \nWhy Fibroids Awareness Month matters\nUterine fibroids are extremely common – affecting as many as 70% to 80% of women by age 50 – yet they often go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for years. The condition disproportionately affects Black women\, who are more likely to experience fibroids at a younger age and with more severe symptoms. Fibroids Awareness Month helps to dismantle the silence surrounding the condition\, encourage earlier intervention\, and empower women to seek appropriate medical care and support. \nHow to get involved in Fibroids Awareness Month\n\nLearn about fibroids – including symptoms\, risk factors\, and available treatments.\nShare your story or encourage others to speak openly about their experiences with fibroids.\nSupport fibroid research by donating to or promoting organisations focused on women’s health.\nHost or attend educational webinars or community forums on uterine health.\nEncourage healthcare providers to take menstrual and pelvic pain complaints seriously.\nUse social media to raise awareness and amplify advocacy efforts using the campaign hashtags.\n\nHistory of Fibroids Awareness Month\nFibroids Awareness Month began as a grassroots movement and has grown into a national health initiative in the U.S. The campaign was created to address the lack of public conversation and medical urgency around fibroids. Over time\, it has been supported by medical associations\, advocacy groups like The White Dress Project\, and legislation promoting fibroid education and research. Awareness efforts continue to grow\, highlighting the need for inclusive\, accessible\, and effective fibroid care. \nKey Facts About Uterine Fibroids\n\nFibroids are noncancerous tumours that develop in or on the uterus and are hormonally sensitive.\nSymptoms include prolonged periods\, pelvic pressure\, frequent urination\, pain during intercourse\, and infertility.\nBlack women are 2 to 3 times more likely to develop fibroids and often experience more severe symptoms.\nCommon treatments include medication\, hormonal therapy\, myomectomy (surgical removal)\, and uterine fibroid embolization (UFE).\nDespite how common they are\, fibroids are still underfunded in research and under-discussed in medical training.\n\nHashtags\n#FibroidsAwarenessMonth #FibroidFacts #TalkAboutFibroids #WomensHealthMatters #BlackWomenHealth \nLinks\n\nNIH – Uterine Fibroids\nThe White Dress Project\nACOG – Uterine Fibroids\nOffice on Women’s Health

SUMMARY:#Accessible Outdoors Month 2026
DESCRIPTION:What is #AccessibleOutdoors Month?\nBack for its second year\, #AccessibleOutdoors Month is a celebration of inclusive outdoor activity\, disabled sport\, and making the great outdoors open to everyone. \nLaunched in 2024 and returning this 1–31 July 2026\, the campaign shines a spotlight on how disabled people across the UK are getting active outside – from adaptive mountain biking and accessible walks to inclusive water sports and cycling adventures. \nLast year’s mini-documentary series captured the freedom\, joy\, and possibility that come from inclusive design and supportive communities. This year\, we’re going even bigger – and we want you to be part of it. \nWhen is #AccessibleOutdoors Month?\n#AccessibleOutdoors Month runs from 1st July to 31st July 2026\, and it’s all about celebrating real stories of disabled people enjoying nature\, getting active in ways that work for them\, and building a more accessible outdoors for all. \nHow to Get Involved\nThere are so many ways to join the movement this July. Here’s how you can take part: \n1. Follow the journey \nFollow @EveryBodyMoves throughout July for weekly spotlight stories\, featuring disabled people being active outdoors across the UK – told by the community\, for the community. \n2. Share your story \nGot a local event\, walk\, or adaptive sport session happening? Share it! Use #AccessibleOutdoors and tag @EveryBodyMoves to be featured. Whether you’re out with a group or doing your own thing\, we want to see how you’re getting active in nature. \n3. Catch up on last year \nNot sure what to expect? Last year’s 5 episodes explored everything from all-terrain wheelchair walks to inclusive inland waters and beach access. Watch the full series and get inspired. \nWhy It Matters \nNature should be for everyone – but 56% of disabled people say outdoor spaces aren’t easy to access\, compared to just 22% of non-disabled people. From physical and environmental barriers to affordability and rural access\, the gap is real – and it’s time to change that. \nDespite these challenges\, 76% of disabled people want to be more active. Accessible\, affordable outdoor spaces make that possible. That’s why this campaign matters. \n(Source: Activity Alliance’s Annual Disability and Activity Survey 2023–24) \nGot an Idea? \nIf you’re planning something special or want to collaborate during #AccessibleOutdoors Month\, the Every Body Moves team would love to hear from you. Email us at info@everybodymoves.org.uk. \nLet’s make this summer more inclusive\, more active\, and more connected – together!

SUMMARY:Group B Strep Support (GBSS) Awareness Month 2026
DESCRIPTION:Each July\, families\, health professionals\, and campaigners across the UK come together to raise awareness of group B Strep – a common yet often misunderstood bacterium that can have life-threatening consequences for newborns. Group B Strep Support Awareness Month is a time to educate\, empower\, and advocate for better testing\, treatment\, and understanding of this preventable infection. In 2026\, the campaign is more urgent than ever\, as families continue to push for policy change and greater public awareness. \nWhat is Group B Strep Support Awareness Month?\nThis awareness month\, led by the UK charity Group B Strep Support (GBSS)\, shines a spotlight on group B Streptococcus (GBS) – the most common cause of severe infection in newborns in the UK. It aims to educate expectant parents and health professionals about how GBS is carried\, how it can be transmitted during childbirth\, and what steps can be taken to reduce the risk. \nAwareness Month also honours the families affected by GBS and highlights the stories of those who’ve experienced loss or trauma due to late diagnosis or missed opportunities for prevention. \nWhen is Group B Strep Support Awareness Month 2026?\nGroup B Strep Support Awareness Month takes place throughout the month of July 2026. It is observed annually across the UK and supported by hospitals\, midwives\, campaigners\, and community groups. Events and campaigns run all month long\, including webinars\, fundraising efforts\, personal story sharing\, and calls for action. \nWhy Group B Strep Support Awareness Month Matters\nGroup B Strep is carried by around 1 in 4 adults\, usually harmlessly. But during childbirth\, it can be passed to babies – and in rare cases\, lead to serious complications like sepsis\, pneumonia\, or meningitis. On average\, two babies a day in the UK develop group B Strep infection. One baby a week dies\, and another is left with life-changing disability. \nWhat makes this especially heartbreaking is that most group B Strep infections are preventable. With better awareness\, routine testing\, and timely antibiotics during labour\, the risk can be significantly reduced. This month helps put that life-saving information into more hands – especially among new and expectant parents. \nHow to Get Involved in Group B Strep Support Awareness Month\nWhether you’re a parent\, health worker\, or supporter\, there are powerful ways to make a difference: \n\nLearn the Facts: Visit the GBSS website to understand what group B Strep is and how it’s prevented.\nShare Your Story: If you’ve been affected by group B Strep\, your experience could help raise awareness and save lives.\nRaise Funds: Organise a sponsored walk\, bake sale\, or community event to support GBSS’s campaigning and support work.\nCampaign for Change: Contact your MP to support routine testing for GBS during pregnancy\, or sign the latest petition.\nUse Your Platform: Share GBSS content\, infographics\, or personal messages using the campaign hashtags.\n\nHistory of Group B Strep Support Awareness Month\nThe awareness month is organised by Group B Strep Support\, founded in 1996 by Jane Plumb MBE and Robert Plumb MBE after their son Theo died from GBS infection shortly after birth. Since then\, GBSS has grown into the UK’s leading voice for group B Strep awareness\, working closely with health professionals\, researchers\, and families to improve information and change policy. \nGBSS Awareness Month was established to give greater visibility to the cause\, push for wider testing availability\, and unite people in sharing knowledge and support each July. \nNoteworthy Facts About Group B Strep\n\nGroup B Strep is the most common cause of severe infection in newborn babies in the UK.\nRoutine testing is standard in countries like the US\, Canada\, and Germany – but not yet in the UK.\nA simple ECM (enriched culture medium) test at 35–37 weeks of pregnancy can identify carriers with over 90% accuracy.\nMost babies exposed to GBS are born healthy\, but a small number develop serious infection\, often within hours of birth.\nGBSS provides free information booklets to hospitals\, clinics\, and families across the UK.\n\nHashtags\n#GBSAwarenessMonth\, #GBS2026\, #GroupBStrep\, #TestForGBS \nLinks\n\nGroup B Strep Support – Official Website\nGBSS Awareness Month Campaign Page\nGBS Testing Information

SUMMARY:Independence Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:Independence Day\, celebrated on 4th July each year\, marks the anniversary of the United States declaring independence from Great Britain in 1776. Commonly known as the Fourth of July\, it is a national holiday in the U.S.\, symbolizing freedom\, patriotism\, and the birth of the nation. The day is widely observed with festivities including fireworks\, parades\, concerts\, and family gatherings\, uniting Americans in celebration of their shared history and democratic ideals. \nWhat is Independence Day?\nIndependence Day commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4\, 1776. This foundational document proclaimed the colonies’ separation from British rule and articulated key principles such as individual liberty\, equality\, and the right to self-governance. The day serves as a powerful reminder of the nation’s founding values and the enduring struggle for freedom and justice. \nWhen is Independence Day?\nIndependence Day is celebrated annually on July 4th. In 2026\, it will fall on a Friday\, offering an extended weekend for many Americans. It is a federal holiday\, meaning government offices and most businesses are closed\, and people across the country take part in a wide array of patriotic festivities and leisure activities. \nHistory of the Event\nThe roots of Independence Day lie in the American colonies’ growing dissatisfaction with British rule\, particularly regarding taxation without representation and lack of autonomy. On July 2\, 1776\, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence\, and two days later\, on July 4\, the Declaration of Independence was formally adopted. \nThomas Jefferson\, the principal author\, worked alongside John Adams\, Benjamin Franklin\, Roger Sherman\, and Robert R. Livingston to draft the document. Though the vote occurred on July 2\, the 4th became the official day of celebration as it marked the adoption of the final text. John Adams famously predicted that July 2 would be celebrated for generations – ironically\, it was July 4 that took hold in public consciousness. \nThe first celebrations occurred in 1777\, with fireworks\, music\, and public readings of the Declaration. Over time\, the Fourth of July became a symbol of American identity and pride\, especially following the War of 1812 and during the rise of American nationalism in the 19th century. In 1870\, Congress made it an official federal holiday. \nHow It’s Celebrated\nIndependence Day is marked by a variety of traditional and modern celebrations\, including: \n\nFireworks Displays: Symbolizing the “rockets’ red glare” from the national anthem\, these dazzling shows are a staple of Fourth of July events nationwide.\nParades: Featuring marching bands\, local officials\, veterans\, and themed floats\, parades bring communities together in patriotic spirit.\nBarbecues and Picnics: Families and friends gather for classic American meals like burgers\, hot dogs\, and corn on the cob\, often held in parks or backyards.\nFlag Displays and Patriotic Decor: American flags adorn homes\, public spaces\, and clothing as symbols of national pride and unity.\nConcerts and Community Events: Many towns host live music\, historical reenactments\, and cultural festivals celebrating America’s diversity and heritage.\n\nInteresting Facts\n\nNot All Signers Signed on July 4: While July 4 is the date on the Declaration\, most delegates actually signed it on August 2\, 1776.\nTwo Founding Fathers Died on July 4: John Adams and Thomas Jefferson\, both former presidents and signers of the Declaration\, died on July 4\, 1826 – exactly 50 years after its adoption.\nThe Liberty Bell is Traditionally Rung on July 4: Although it’s now symbolic\, the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia is tapped 13 times each year to honor the original 13 colonies.\nFireworks Have Been Used Since 1777: The very first Fourth of July celebration featured fireworks in Philadelphia – starting a long-standing tradition.\nFourth of July is the Top Hot Dog Day: Americans consume an estimated 150 million hot dogs on Independence Day each year!\n\nRelevant Hashtags\n\n#IndependenceDay\n#FourthOfJuly\n#4thOfJuly\n#USA\n#Freedom\n\nRelevant Links\n\nDeclaration of Independence – U.S. National Archives\nHistory.com – Fourth of July\nUSA.gov – Independence Day
