Supporting the Maritime Community with Seafarers Awareness Week 2018
Seafarers Awareness Week has been taking place since 2010. It is organised and promoted by Seafarers UK. Every year, a different theme is chosen and for 2018, it has been decided to promote opportunities in the UK for maritime employment. The emphasis is on engineering, in particular the Royal Navy.
What is Seafarers UK?
Seafarers UK is a registered charity that aims to help people in the maritime community. It provides vital support for seafarers and their families, and has been doing this for more than a century. Funds are raised, which are then given out as grants to worthy causes. They include organisations and projects that make a difference to people’s lives. Some recipients have been the Merchant Navy, Royal Navy, Royal Marines and fishing fleets.
What Happens During Seafarers Awareness Week?
It’s possible to get involved in a number of different ways. You can organise a local awareness-raising event or activity, or go along to one that is being organised in your area. There is a full list of events available on the Seafarers UK website, and it will be regularly updated.
Partnering with the Government’s 2018 – Year of Engineering Campaign
Seafarers UK is joining forces with the UK Government to help maritime businesses at sea and ashore find the qualified engineers they so desperately needs. Working together means that the public will be more aware of the maritime job opportunities available. It’s possible to follow the campaign on Twitter and Instagram too.
