St Andrews Day 2018

Saint Andrew has been the patron saint of Scotland for centuries – thousands of years in fact and in fact he was made patron saint in 1320. This was when Scotland declared independence. On November 30th, St Andrew is honoured, but he is also honoured in other more long-term ways such as the St Andrew Cross being found on the Scottish flag.

Make it an St Andrew Weekend

One of the reasons St Andrew became such a Scottish icon is that he epitomises the true Scottish spirit – humility, generosity and strength. On 30 November 2018 get ready to gather your family and friends to enjoy lots of special events and to party, eat, drink and be merry. The 30th November 2018 falls on a Friday this year so it is certainly a time to turn this event into a long weekend.

A Chance for Wonderful Get-Togethers

Th amazing thing is that this special day isn’t only celebrated in Scotland but in other parts of the world too such as Barbados and Poland. In Scotland, there are so many ways to celebrate this day and many celebrations are centred around Grassmarket in Edinburgh. There’s plenty of live music, food and drink and of course traditional, atmospheric stories from Edinburgh’s Storytelling Centre.

The 30th November 2018 is your time to get into the swing of things because, in keeping with the generosity of Saint Andrew, there’ll be some awesome attraction over the entire St Andrew weekend where entry is free. Food, cultural history, picnics, outings and a chance to pick up some great gifts for Christmas from the Indy Traders Craft & Vintage Market in Glasgow.
