Thousands of schools across the nation have already signed up for this years National Walk to School Day, so if you haven’t already do so today!
Now in its 22nd year, this event continues to create excitement with more participants joining in annually.
Bringing communities together, this event aims to encourage healthier habits, a cleaner environment, community involvement and heavily promotes safety. With 203000 children aged 15 and under injured in 2009 as a result of motor vehicle crashes, in particular 15000 of these being pedestrians, safety is paramount to this campaign. Emphasis is placed on the education of children, parents, carers and road users and information and learning resources disseminated in a variety of ways to reach as many of these target audiences as possible.
Organised by the National Center for Safe Routes to School, the organisation works tirelessly to empower communities to walk and bike safely to school as well as trying to encourage families to choose to walk or bike as opposed to drive. With a fabulous website featuring activities, events, simple registration information, downloadable material and marketing and pres info, it is incredibly simple to join in with this national event.
Get your coats and comfortable shoes at the ready, have fun with your classmates and stay safe!
