World Fair Trade Day takes place on 11th May 2019. Organised by the World Fair Trade Organisation, the aim of the day is to celebrate Fair Trade and encourage the public to, where possible, choose Fair Trade goods, becoming fair and ethical consumers.
Fair Trade is a trading partnership that observes the human rights of all involved, paying fairly for goods and services that have been sustainably sourced and also engaging in supporting the fight against economic crisis, poverty, gender inequality and climate change.
For 2018, the theme of World Fair Trade Day was “Live fair, one product at a time” The aim of this theme was to encourage the public to think about how they can make small changes to gradually swap to more fair trade products, one product at a time. Participants were asked to share information about World Fair Trade Day and their own Fair Trade choices on social media using the hashtags #LiveFair and #FairTradeDay
On World Fair Trade day a number of events are taking part to celebrate the occasion. These include a photography contest, meetings and conferences.
