Boss’s Day is an annual secular holiday that focuses on strengthening the bond between employers and their employees. It is celebrated on October 16 in the United States, Canada and some other countries. In 1958, Patricia Bays Haroski, a secretary for an insurance company, registered National Boss’ Day with the United States Chamber of Commerce. She chose the date of October 16 because it was her father’s birthday (Haroski was he father’s employee at the time). In 1962, Governor of Illinois Otto Kerner officially proclaimed Boss’s Day. Hallmark Cards has been selling Boss’s Day cards since 1979.The holiday was designed for employees to show the appreciation for their bosses and thank them for being fair and kind. It is also intended to help improve intra-office relationships and achieve mutual understanding between employees and managers. The matter is that some employees to not understand the challenges their bosses have to face and underestimate their dedication and hard work.Boss’s Day used to be celebrated in the United States and Canada only, but in recent years it has also been observed in some other countries including Australia, Ireland, India, Romania, and Lithuania.
