SUMMARY:On Your Feet Britain
DESCRIPTION:On Your Feet Britain takes place on Thursday\, 30 April 2026\, challenging workplaces across the United Kingdom to break up prolonged sitting and get moving. Organised by Get Britain Standing in collaboration with Active Working\, the annual campaign highlights the serious health risks associated with sedentary behaviour and promotes simple\, practical changes that office workers and desk-based professionals can make during their working day. \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is On Your Feet Britain?\n\n\n\n\nOn Your Feet Britain is an annual workplace wellness campaign that encourages employees and employers to reduce the amount of time spent sitting during the working day. Run by Get Britain Standing\, a community interest group focused on combating excessive sedentary behaviour\, the campaign provides free resources\, toolkits\, and activity suggestions to help workplaces participate. The day is designed to be inclusive and accessible – the changes it promotes are small and require no special equipment\, just a willingness to stand up\, move around\, and think differently about how we work. \n\n\n\n\n\nWhen is On Your Feet Britain?\n\n\n\n\nOn Your Feet Britain takes place on the last Thursday of April each year. In 2026\, the date is Thursday\, 30 April. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n \n\nYear\n\n\n \n\nDate\n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n2026\n\n\n\nThursday\, 30 April\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n2027\n\n\n\nThursday\, 29 April\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n2028\n\n\n\nThursday\, 27 April\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n2029\n\n\n\nThursday\, 26 April\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n2030\n\n\n\nThursday\, 25 April\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy On Your Feet Britain Matters\n\n\n\n\nProlonged sitting has been linked to a range of serious health conditions\, including heart disease\, type 2 diabetes\, certain cancers\, and mental health problems. Research suggests that sedentary office workers spend an average of 9 to 10 hours per day sitting – far exceeding what the human body was designed to tolerate. Public Health England has recommended that office workers should aim to stand\, move\, or walk for at least two hours during the working day\, gradually building to four hours. \n\n\n\n\nOn Your Feet Britain addresses this by providing a single\, focused day of action that workplaces can rally around. The campaign does not require expensive equipment or major changes – it simply asks people to stand up more\, take the stairs\, hold walking meetings\, and break up their sitting time. These small changes\, when adopted consistently\, can meaningfully reduce the health risks associated with prolonged sedentary behaviour. For more health-focused workplace campaigns\, Stress Awareness Month\, which runs throughout April\, also addresses wellbeing in the working environment. \n\n\n\n\n\nHow to Get Involved in On Your Feet Britain\n\n\n\n\nHere are practical ways to participate: \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nHold standing meetings – Replace at least one seated meeting with a standing one. Standing meetings tend to be shorter and more focused\, benefiting both health and productivity.\n\n\n \n\nTake phone calls on your feet – Whenever a call comes in\, stand up to answer it. Pacing while talking also adds steps to your day and can help you think more clearly.\n\n\n \n\nWalk during lunch – Instead of eating at your desk\, take a walk outside during your lunch break. Even a 15-minute walk makes a meaningful difference.\n\n\n \n\nUse the stairs – Bypass the lift and take the stairs wherever possible. Stair climbing is a simple form of exercise that easily integrates into the working day.\n\n\n \n\nSet a standing reminder – Use a phone timer or desktop notification to remind you to stand up and move for at least two minutes every 30 minutes of sitting.\n\n\n \n\nOrganise a lunchtime activity – Run a group walk\, a stretching session\, or a step-count challenge for your team. Competition and camaraderie make movement more enjoyable.\n\n\n \n\nRegister your workplace – Visit the Get Britain Standing website to register your workplace for the campaign and download free resources including posters\, email templates\, and activity ideas.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHistory of On Your Feet Britain\n\n\n\n\nOn Your Feet Britain was created by Get Britain Standing\, a community interest group established to raise awareness about the health dangers of sedentary lifestyles\, particularly in the workplace. The campaign operates in collaboration with Active Working\, a movement that promotes productive and healthy office environments through reduced sitting time. \n\n\n\n\nThe initiative was inspired by growing scientific evidence linking prolonged sitting with increased risks of cardiovascular disease\, diabetes\, obesity\, and premature death. Studies from institutions including the British Heart Foundation\, the University of Leicester\, and Public Health England contributed to a body of research that prompted calls for workplace interventions. On Your Feet Britain emerged as a practical\, accessible response – a single day of action that could catalyse lasting changes in workplace culture. \n\n\n\n\nSince its launch\, the campaign has grown year on year\, with thousands of workplaces across the UK registering to participate. The campaign uses the hashtags #MoveMore and #SitLess to spread its message and encourage participation through social media. \n\n\n\n\n\nNoteworthy Facts About Sedentary Behaviour\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nThe average UK office worker spends approximately 9 to 10 hours per day sitting.\n\n\n \n\nPublic Health England recommends that office workers stand\, move\, or walk for at least two hours during the working day\, building to four hours.\n\n\n \n\nProlonged sitting increases the risk of heart disease by up to 147%\, according to some research estimates.\n\n\n \n\nStanding burns approximately 50 more calories per hour than sitting – a modest but meaningful difference over the course of a working day.\n\n\n \n\nRegular movement breaks have been shown to improve concentration\, reduce fatigue\, and boost mood among office workers.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is On Your Feet Britain?\n\n\n\n\nOn Your Feet Britain is an annual workplace wellness campaign on the last Thursday of April\, organised by Get Britain Standing. SUMMARY:Pyjamas for PanCan Day
DESCRIPTION:Pyjamas for PanCan is an annual fundraising day organised by Pancreatic Cancer Action\, a UK charity dedicated to improving early diagnosis and survival rates for pancreatic cancer. In 2026\, the event falls on Friday 24 April. Workplaces\, schools\, and community groups across the country are encouraged to swap their usual attire for pyjamas and donate to the cause. \nWhat is Pyjamas for PanCan?\nPyjamas for PanCan is one of the most accessible charity fundraisers of the year. The concept is simple: wear your pyjamas for the day and make a small donation\, typically one or two pounds. The funds raised go directly to Pancreatic Cancer Action\, which campaigns for earlier diagnosis of pancreatic cancer through research funding\, awareness campaigns\, and healthcare professional education. \nThe event has grown steadily since its launch\, with thousands of people taking part each year. Schools organise PJ days\, offices run bake sales alongside the dress-down day\, and community groups use the occasion to start conversations about a disease that too often goes undiagnosed until it is too late. \nWhen is Pyjamas for PanCan Day?\nPyjamas for PanCan Day 2026 takes place on Friday 24 April 2026. However\, Pancreatic Cancer Action encourages supporters to take part on any date throughout April if the official day does not suit their schedule. The flexibility means more people can get involved\, whether that is a school holding their PJ day before the Easter break or a workplace choosing a quieter week. \nWhy Pyjamas for PanCan Matters\nPancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer. In the UK\, 26 people die from the disease every single day\, which is more than one person every hour. The five-year survival rate remains below 7%\, making it the lowest of all common cancers. These figures have barely improved in decades\, largely because pancreatic cancer is difficult to detect early. By the time most patients receive a diagnosis\, the cancer has already spread. \nPancreatic Cancer Action focuses on changing this through earlier diagnosis. The charity funds research into diagnostic tools\, trains GPs to recognise the symptoms sooner\, and raises public awareness of the warning signs. Every pound raised through Pyjamas for PanCan goes towards this mission. \nThe symptoms of pancreatic cancer can include persistent stomach or back pain\, unexplained weight loss\, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)\, changes in bowel habits\, and new-onset diabetes. Recognising these signs early can make a significant difference to outcomes. \nHow to Get Involved\n\nWear your pyjamas – Ask your workplace\, school\, or community group to hold a PJ day on 24 April or any date in April. Collect donations of one to two pounds per person.\nOrder a fundraising pack – Pancreatic Cancer Action provides a free pack including posters\, sponsorship forms\, games\, awareness leaflets\, and a collection box. It also includes hot chocolate sachets and a PJs for PanCan eye mask.\nSet up online fundraising – Create a JustGiving page to collect donations from friends\, family\, and colleagues who cannot attend in person.\nBook an awareness talk – Pancreatic Cancer Action offers free occupational health talks where a team member explains the charity’s mission and how to spot the early signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer.\nAdd extras to your event – Many groups run bake sales\, raffles\, or coffee mornings alongside their PJ day to boost fundraising totals.\nShare on social media – Post your pyjama photos using the hashtag #PyjamasforPanCan and tag Pancreatic Cancer Action to help spread awareness.\n\nHistory of Pyjamas for PanCan\nPyjamas for PanCan was created by Pancreatic Cancer Action\, a charity registered in England and Wales (charity number 1137689) and Scotland (SC049777). The charity was founded by Ali Stunt\, who survived pancreatic cancer herself after being diagnosed early\, and has dedicated her work to ensuring others receive the same chance through earlier detection. \nThe pyjama theme was chosen for its accessibility. Anyone can take part regardless of age\, ability\, or budget. The low-cost\, high-fun nature of the event makes it particularly popular in primary schools and offices\, where it often becomes an annual tradition. Over the years\, the campaign has raised vital funds that have contributed to Pancreatic Cancer Action’s diagnostic research and GP training programmes. \nNoteworthy Facts\n\nPancreatic cancer kills 26 people every day in the UK\, more than one person every hour.\nThe five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is below 7%\, the lowest of all common cancers.\nAround 10\,500 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the UK each year.\nPancreatic Cancer Action focuses on early diagnosis because patients diagnosed at stage one have significantly better outcomes.\nThe charity offers free awareness talks to workplaces and community groups to help people recognise symptoms earlier.\n\nSpread the Word\nHelp raise awareness by sharing Pyjamas for PanCan Day with your friends\, family\, and followers. Use the hashtags #PyjamasforPanCan and #PjsforPanCan on social media. The more people who know about pancreatic cancer and its symptoms\, the greater the chance of earlier diagnosis. \nRelated Awareness Days\n\nBowel Cancer Awareness Month – A month-long campaign raising awareness of bowel cancer symptoms and screening.\nWorld Health Day – An annual global health awareness day observed on 7 April.\nNational Cancer Control Month – April observance promoting cancer prevention\, early detection\, and treatment.\n\nLinks\n\nVisit the official Pyjamas for PanCan page\nExplore more awareness days at AwarenessDays.com\n\nGet the 2026 ToolkitEvery awareness day in 2026 — spreadsheet\, PDF calendars\, iCal feed and unlimited reading. SUMMARY:National Stop Snoring Week 2026
DESCRIPTION:Snoring noise and sleep disturbance – is it a threat to our health?\nThe sound of snoring is irritating and annoying and can lead to sleep deprivation for the bed partner. But the noise of snoring can also cause a number of health problems. \nWe all know how it feels if we have not had a good night’s sleep – we feel tired and sleepy all day\, bad tempered\, lacking concentration\, and generally irritable. Bed partners who are disturbed every night by snoring they experience these symptoms every day. \nThe noise level that starts to have an effect on sleep is around 40dB. The noise of snoring can range from about 50dB to 100+dB\, and research has consistently found that when exposed to noise at these levels\, it can have a negative effect on all areas of our wellbeing. \nNoise at night has become a major problem\, and many people consider that a good night’s sleep is a basic human entitlement essential for maintaining good health. Indeed\, sleep is so important that the World Health Organisation (WHO) document several categories of adverse health and social effects from noise. \nSleep disturbance\, hearing impairment\, daytime functioning\, mental health problems\, cognitive issues and negative social behaviour can be symptoms of being subjected to loud noise over a period of time. Sleep deprivation can also have a negative impact on body systems such as hormonal release\, glucose regulation and cardiovascular function\, leading to overall poor health. \nEvidence has shown that the louder the noise\, the worse the sleep. The quality of the noise is also an issue. Some noises can be subjectively annoying whilst others of the same level are not. It is well know that the noise of snoring is one that cannot be tolerated for long without disrupted sleep. \nSome bed partners who sleep with their snorer every night try to sleep through the noise and ignore it. However\, it has been shown that although you may sleep through the night\, the quality of sleep will be much reduced and you will not feel as refreshed in the morning as you should. Noise tends to reduce our deep refreshing sleep to more shallow sleep\, and will also reduce dreaming sleep. It is well documented that bed partners of snorers have been found to be at risk of hearing loss due to continuous noise exposure. \nOther partners find themselves re-locating to the spare room in the middle of the night in order to get a few hours of uninterrupted sleep. Many of them have feelings of guilt in leaving the bedroom – but they have a right to a good night’s sleep. Nevertheless\, the stress of the situation can put a great strain on the health and relationship of both partners. \nSo how can these issues be resolved?\nThe snorer must acknowledge the problem and take steps to resolve it. Snoring will not go away – it will only get worse if not addressed. \nSelf-help remedies – see http://www.britishsnoring.co.uk for help & information. \nIf you cannot resolve the snoring by self-help remedies seek professional help to find the cause and appropriate treatment. Make an appointment to see one of our sleep specialists in our clinic. http://www.thereigatesleepclinic.co.uk \nWhen is National Stop Snoring Week 2026?\n\n\n\nYear\nStart Date\nEnd Date\n\n\n\n\n2026\n21 April\n27 April\n\n\n2027\nTBC\nTBC\n\n\n2028\nTBC\nTBC\n\n\n\nGet the 2026 ToolkitEvery awareness day in 2026 — spreadsheet\, PDF calendars\, iCal feed and unlimited reading. SUMMARY:National Tea Day
DESCRIPTION:National Tea Day falls on 21 April 2026\, celebrating Britain’s most iconic beverage with events\, promotions\, and tea-related festivities across the United Kingdom. Founded in 2016\, the day marks its 10th anniversary in 2026 and carries the slogan “Brew More. Do More.” – encouraging people to connect over a good cup of tea. \n\n\n\n\n\nHow to Celebrate National Tea Day\n\n\n\n\nNational Tea Day is all about enjoying\, sharing\, and discovering tea. Here are the best ways to get involved: \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nHost an afternoon tea – Invite friends\, family\, or colleagues for a traditional afternoon tea with sandwiches\, scones\, and cakes. Whether you go all out with a tiered stand or keep it simple with mugs and biscuits\, the point is to share the moment.\n\n\n \n\nTry a new tea – Branch out from your usual brew. Visit a specialist tea shop and sample something different – a Darjeeling first flush\, a smoky Lapsang Souchong\, or a floral jasmine green tea. Many tea retailers offer tasting sets perfect for the occasion.\n\n\n \n\nVisit a tea room – Tea rooms and cafes across the UK participate in National Tea Day by offering discounts\, special blends\, and themed events. Check local listings or the National Tea Day website for participating venues near you.\n\n\n \n\nLearn about tea origins – Take time to explore where your tea comes from and how it is produced. Understanding the journey from leaf to cup adds a new dimension to your daily brew. Many tea brands share the stories of their growers and estates.\n\n\n \n\nMake tea for someone else – One of the simplest and most meaningful gestures: make a cup of tea for a neighbour\, a colleague\, or someone who could use a moment of warmth. The act of making tea for another person is quintessentially British and universally kind.\n\n\n \n\nExperiment with tea recipes – Try cooking or baking with tea. Earl Grey cake\, matcha cookies\, chai-spiced porridge\, or even a tea-infused cocktail can give your day a creative twist.\n\n\n \n\nShare your brew on social media – Post a photo of your favourite cup using #NationalTeaDay and #BrewMoreDoMore. Tea brands and tea rooms often run competitions and giveaways on the day.\n\n\n \n\nSupport a tea charity – Organisations like the UK Tea Academy and the Ethical Tea Partnership work to promote tea education and sustainable practices in tea-growing communities. Consider supporting their work.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is National Tea Day?\n\n\n\n\nNational Tea Day is the UK’s annual celebration of tea in all its forms – from a classic builder’s brew to artisan loose-leaf blends\, matcha lattes to iced teas. The day was created to bring people together over a shared love of tea and to celebrate the cultural significance of tea-drinking in British life. Tea houses\, cafes\, restaurants\, pubs\, and hotels participate by offering tastings\, workshops\, and special promotions\, while tea brands launch new products and collaborations. The day is organised by The Tea Group and is supported by tea producers\, retailers\, and hospitality businesses across the country. \n\n\n\n\n\nWhen is National Tea Day?\n\n\n\n\nNational Tea Day falls on 21 April every year. In 2026\, it is on Tuesday\, 21 April. The date was chosen because it is also Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday – a fitting choice for a celebration of one of Britain’s most cherished traditions. If you enjoy celebrating food and drink\, Time For A Cuppa in early May is another tea-themed event that raises money for charity. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe History of National Tea Day\n\n\n\n\nNational Tea Day was founded in 2016 by The Tea Group\, making 2026 the 10th anniversary of the celebration. The day was established to promote tea culture in the UK and to bring together tea lovers\, producers\, and hospitality businesses in a shared celebration of the nation’s favourite drink. \n\n\n\n\nTea itself has a far longer history in Britain. Although tea was first introduced to England in the 17th century – Catherine of Braganza\, the Portuguese wife of Charles II\, is often credited with popularising tea-drinking at the English court in the 1660s – it was not until the 18th and 19th centuries that tea became a staple of British daily life. The establishment of tea plantations in India and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) by British colonial companies made tea affordable and widely available\, and by the Victorian era\, the tradition of afternoon tea had become firmly embedded in British culture. \n\n\n\n\nToday\, the UK consumes more than 60 billion cups of tea per year – upwards of 165 million cups every single day. Black tea remains the most popular variety\, though green tea\, herbal teas\, and speciality blends have grown significantly in popularity in recent years. \n\n\n\n\n\nFun Facts About Tea\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nThe UK consumes over 60 billion cups of tea per year\, equating to roughly 165 million cups per day.\n\n\n \n\nTea is the second most consumed beverage in the world\, after water.\n\n\n \n\nThe date of National Tea Day (21 April) was chosen to coincide with Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday.\n\n\n \n\nAll true tea – black\, green\, white\, and oolong – comes from the same plant\, Camellia sinensis. The differences arise from how the leaves are processed.\n\n\n \n\nBritain’s love affair with tea dates back to the 1660s\, when Catherine of Braganza introduced the drink to the English court.\n\n\n \n\nThe tradition of afternoon tea was popularised in the 1840s by Anna\, the Duchess of Bedford\, who requested tea and light refreshments to bridge the gap between lunch and dinner.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy National Tea Day Matters\n\n\n\n\nTea is far more than a beverage in British culture – it is a ritual of connection\, comfort\, and hospitality. The act of offering someone a cup of tea is an expression of care and community that transcends social boundaries. National Tea Day celebrates this tradition while also supporting the UK’s tea industry\, from high-street tea rooms to artisan blenders\, and raising awareness about the people and communities around the world who grow and produce the tea that fills British cups. \n\n\n\n\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is National Tea Day?\n\n\n\n\nNational Tea Day is the UK’s annual celebration of tea\, held on 21 April each year. SUMMARY:MS Awareness Week 2026
DESCRIPTION:MS Awareness Week is an annual campaign dedicated to raising public awareness about multiple sclerosis (MS)\, a chronic and often disabling neurological condition that affects the central nervous system. The week shines a spotlight on the experiences of people living with MS\, promotes understanding\, and encourages support for ongoing research\, treatment innovation\, and community resources. Through shared stories\, educational outreach\, and advocacy\, MS Awareness Week empowers individuals to better understand this complex condition and to stand in solidarity with those affected. \nWhat is MS Awareness Week?\nMS Awareness Week is a global observance that seeks to educate the public about multiple sclerosis and its wide-ranging impact on physical\, emotional\, and mental health. MS is an unpredictable disease in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerve fibers\, disrupting communication between the brain and the rest of the body. Symptoms can include fatigue\, vision problems\, numbness\, mobility issues\, and cognitive changes. \nThis awareness campaign is organized by national and international MS organizations to encourage research funding\, promote accessibility and equity in care\, and inspire a greater public understanding of what it’s like to live with MS. It’s a chance to hear from those with lived experience and to advocate for policies that improve their quality of life. \nWhen is MS Awareness Week?\nMS Awareness Week typically takes place in the last full week of March each year. In 2026\, it will be observed from Monday\, March 24th to Sunday\, March 30th. It is part of a broader movement that includes World MS Day (held annually on May 30th)\, helping to keep MS in the public eye throughout the year. \nHow Can You Get Involved?\nThere are many impactful and supportive ways to participate in MS Awareness Week. Whether you’re living with MS\, caring for someone who is\, or simply want to help\, here are several meaningful ways to engage: \n\nShare Personal Stories: First-hand accounts help demystify MS and build empathy. Share your journey or someone else’s (with permission) through blog posts\, videos\, or social media to help raise awareness and reduce stigma.\nUse Your Voice on Social Media: Join the global conversation by posting facts\, infographics\, or messages of support using the official campaign hashtags. Follow MS charities for daily prompts\, virtual events\, and downloadable content.\nWear Orange: Orange is the official color of MS awareness. Wear it proudly throughout the week to show your support and start conversations about MS in your community or workplace.\nFundraise for MS Research: Organize or participate in charity runs\, walks\, bake sales\, or virtual fundraising challenges. Every donation helps fuel critical research and patient support services.\nHost an MS Info Session: Bring your community together by hosting an awareness event\, webinar\, or panel discussion with guest speakers\, healthcare professionals\, or MS advocates to educate others on the condition.\nLearn and Share the Facts: Help combat myths and misinformation about MS by learning about its causes\, symptoms\, and treatment options. Share trusted resources from leading organizations with friends\, family\, and colleagues.\nAdvocate for Change: Contact policymakers to support increased funding for MS research\, healthcare access\, disability rights\, and workplace accommodations. Your voice can influence public policy and improve lives.\nSupport Someone with MS: Sometimes the best way to help is through small\, personal gestures – offering transportation\, helping with household tasks\, or simply being there to listen and understand.\n\nWhy is MS Awareness Week Important?\nMore than 2.8 million people around the world live with MS\, and yet it remains widely misunderstood. MS Awareness Week plays a crucial role in dispelling myths\, providing hope\, and connecting people with valuable information and community support. \nBy increasing awareness and promoting action\, we take important steps toward earlier diagnosis\, more effective treatments\, and ultimately\, a cure. The week is also a powerful reminder that no one facing MS should do so alone – and that together\, we can make a meaningful difference. \nRelevant Hashtags\n#MSAwarenessWeek #ThisIsMS #EndMS #MultipleSclerosisAwareness #StrongerThanMS #MSWarrior #TogetherWeAreStronger \nRelevant Links\n\nNational MS Society – Official Website\nMS Society UK – MS Awareness Week Resources\nWorld MS Day – Global Campaign\nMultiple Sclerosis News Today – Research & News\n\nGet the 2026 ToolkitEvery awareness day in 2026 — spreadsheet\, PDF calendars\, iCal feed and unlimited reading. SUMMARY:UK Clothing Poverty Awareness Day
DESCRIPTION:UK Clothing Poverty Awareness Day shines a light on a hidden form of hardship: people who cannot afford the clothes they need for warmth\, work\, school\, or self-confidence. The day is championed by Sharewear Clothing Scheme\, the Nottingham-based charity that pioneered awareness campaigning on this issue from 2018 onwards. \nWhat is UK Clothing Poverty Awareness Day?\nUK Clothing Poverty Awareness Day raises public awareness of clothing poverty\, which the charity Sharewear defines as the inability to afford the basic clothing needed to live with dignity. Clothing poverty is rarely visible because people in difficulty often hide it. A child without a coat\, an adult unable to attend a job interview because they have no smart clothes\, or a family unable to replace school uniform after a growth spurt all experience clothing poverty. The day calls on the public\, employers\, and government to recognise clothing as a basic need\, alongside food and shelter\, and to support charities meeting this need. \nWhen is UK Clothing Poverty Awareness Day?\nUK Clothing Poverty Awareness Day takes place on Tuesday\, 14 April 2026. The wider Clothing Poverty Awareness Week\, also championed by Sharewear\, has historically been held in early summer. Throughout the year\, awareness moments help build pressure for systemic change and raise funds for clothing charities operating across the United Kingdom. \nWhy UK Clothing Poverty Awareness Day Matters\nJoseph Rowntree Foundation research consistently finds that around 1 in 5 people in the UK live in poverty\, and child poverty rates remain stubbornly high. The Trussell Trust reported a record 3.1 million emergency food parcels distributed in 2023-24\, with families increasingly forced to choose between food\, fuel\, and clothing. School uniform costs have been highlighted by the Children’s Society as a particular pressure point\, especially for families with multiple children. Clothing poverty has knock-on effects on school attendance\, mental health\, employment\, and social inclusion. The day matters because it gives this hidden form of poverty a name\, makes it harder to ignore\, and channels public goodwill towards the charities tackling it. \nHow to Get Involved in UK Clothing Poverty Awareness Day\nThe day is designed for everyone\, from individuals donating a single bag to councils running citywide campaigns. \n\nDonate good-quality clothing – Sharewear and similar charities accept clean\, well-cared-for clothes\, especially warm coats\, school uniform\, work-appropriate clothing\, and underwear (new only).\nRun a clothes swap – Workplaces\, schools\, and community groups can host a swap event where colleagues exchange unwanted items and donate the rest.\nSponsor school uniform – Local schools and food banks often run uniform support schemes. Donating new or nearly-new items relieves real family pressure.\nFundraise for Sharewear or similar charities – Walks\, bake sales\, and online fundraisers help charities pay for laundry\, transport\, and storage costs.\nLobby for change – Write to your MP about removing VAT on essential clothing items or expanding statutory school uniform support.\nBuy from charity shops – Charity shops fund a huge proportion of the sector’s work and offer affordable\, sustainable clothing.\nEducate young people – Schools can use the day for assemblies and lessons on poverty\, dignity\, and consumerism.\nVolunteer – Sorting\, packing\, and delivering donated clothing is hands-on work that local charities welcome year-round.\n\nHistory of UK Clothing Poverty Awareness Day\nThe Sharewear Clothing Scheme was founded in Nottingham in 2014 by Louise Cooke. Originally a small-scale local effort to redistribute donated clothing to people referred by social workers and other professionals\, Sharewear grew rapidly into a national movement. The charity has now distributed millions of items of clothing\, free of charge\, across the United Kingdom. \nUK Clothing Poverty Awareness Day was launched in 2018 by Sharewear to highlight the hidden issue of clothing poverty in the general UK population. The first day was accompanied by the launch of the #NothingToWear social media campaign\, which used real testimony from people experiencing clothing poverty to challenge the stigma around the issue. SUMMARY:Parkinson’s Awareness Week 2026
DESCRIPTION:What is Parkinson’s Awareness Week?\nParkinson’s Awareness Week is an annual campaign that shines a spotlight on Parkinson’s disease\, a progressive neurological condition that affects movement\, mood and many aspects of daily life. The week brings together charities\, healthcare professionals\, researchers\, people living with Parkinson’s and their families to raise awareness\, share information and fundraise for vital support services and research. \nAs there is currently no cure for Parkinson’s\, awareness campaigns like this are essential for ensuring that people living with the condition receive timely diagnoses\, appropriate treatment and the support they need to maintain their quality of life. \nWhen is Parkinson’s Awareness Week?\nParkinson’s Awareness Week 2026 runs from Tuesday 7 April to Monday 13 April\, with World Parkinson’s Day falling on Saturday 11 April during the week. The week is organised to coincide with World Parkinson’s Day\, which is observed internationally on 11 April every year to mark the birthday of Dr James Parkinson\, the London physician who first described the condition in 1817. \n\n\n\nYear\nDates\n\n\n\n\n2025\n7 – 13 April\n\n\n2026\n7 – 13 April\n\n\n2027\n7 – 13 April\n\n\n\nWhy Parkinson’s Awareness Week Matters\nParkinson’s disease is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. Over 10 million people globally are estimated to be living with the disease\, and that number is projected to reach 25 million by 2050 as populations age. Men are approximately 1.5 times more likely than women to develop Parkinson’s\, though it can affect anyone regardless of age\, gender or background. \nThe condition is caused by a loss of nerve cells in a part of the brain called the substantia nigra\, which leads to a reduction in the chemical dopamine. This reduction in dopamine is responsible for many of the symptoms associated with Parkinson’s\, including tremor\, slowness of movement\, rigidity and balance problems. However\, Parkinson’s is far more than a movement disorder. Many people also experience non-motor symptoms such as anxiety\, depression\, sleep disturbances\, fatigue and cognitive changes. \nUp to 50% of people with Parkinson’s will experience anxiety or depression at some point during their illness. These mental health conditions are often overlooked and underdiagnosed\, yet when left untreated they can worsen physical symptoms such as tremor\, stiffness\, sleep problems and pain\, significantly reducing quality of life. \nParkinson’s Awareness Week provides a platform to highlight these often-hidden aspects of the condition and to encourage people to seek help and support. \nHistory of Parkinson’s Awareness Week\nParkinson’s Awareness Week has been observed for many years\, primarily driven by charities such as Parkinson’s Care and Support UK and Parkinson’s UK. The week grew out of the broader movement around World Parkinson’s Day\, which was established in 1997 by the European Parkinson’s Disease Association with co-sponsorship from the World Health Organisation. The red tulip\, adopted as the official symbol of Parkinson’s disease during the 9th World Parkinson’s Disease Day Conference in 2005\, has become a widely recognised emblem of the awareness campaign. \nHow to Get Involved\nThere are many ways to support Parkinson’s Awareness Week and make a difference: \n\nLearn about Parkinson’s and share what you discover with friends\, family and colleagues to help improve understanding of the condition.\nAttend events organised by Parkinson’s charities during the week\, including talks\, exercise classes\, support group meetings and fundraising activities.\nDonate or fundraise to support Parkinson’s research\, respite care\, exercise programmes and neurological physiotherapy. Organisations such as Parkinson’s Care and Support UK rely entirely on public donations.\nWear something blue or grey\, the colours associated with Parkinson’s awareness\, and share a photo on social media.\nCheck in on someone you know who is living with Parkinson’s or caring for someone with the condition. A simple conversation can make a real difference.\nShare on social media using the hashtags below to help spread the word and reach new audiences.\n\n#ParkinsonsAwarenessWeek #WorldParkinsonsDay #Parkinsons #ParkinsonsDisease #ParkinsonsAwareness \nGet the 2026 ToolkitEvery awareness day in 2026 — spreadsheet\, PDF calendars\, iCal feed and unlimited reading. Organized by health organizations\, charities\, and healthcare professionals\, the initiative strives to inform people about the risk factors\, symptoms\, and available screening options for bowel cancer. The campaign also aims to support patients and families affected by the disease\, offering guidance\, resources\, and a platform to share personal experiences. \nBowel cancer can affect anyone\, but risk increases with age\, particularly from 50 onwards. Funds help support research\, patient services\, and public education campaigns.\nParticipate in Awareness Events: Attend or organize awareness activities such as educational webinars\, health fairs\, and Q&A sessions with medical experts. These events are great opportunities to learn more and help spread the message.\nUse Social Media to Amplify Awareness: Post facts\, statistics\, personal stories\, and official campaign graphics across your social media platforms using designated hashtags. Raising awareness online can reach a wide audience and spark important conversations.\nAdopt Healthy Lifestyle Habits: Reducing your risk of bowel cancer can include lifestyle changes such as eating a high-fiber\, low-fat diet\, limiting red and processed meats\, maintaining a healthy weight\, exercising regularly\, avoiding smoking\, and moderating alcohol consumption. Share tips and encourage others to make positive health choices.\n\nWhy is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month Important?\nBowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in many countries. SUMMARY:Testicular Cancer Awareness Week 2026
DESCRIPTION:Testicular Cancer Awareness Week takes place from 1 to 7 April each year\, marking the opening of Testicular Cancer Awareness Month. The week serves as a focused campaign to educate men and boys about the signs and symptoms of testicular cancer\, the importance of regular self-examination\, and the high survival rates associated with early detection. Organisations including the Testicular Cancer Society\, the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation\, and The Urology Foundation lead awareness efforts during this period. \nWhat is Testicular Cancer Awareness Week?\nTesticular Cancer Awareness Week is a dedicated health awareness campaign that runs annually during the first week of April. It aims to break down the stigma and embarrassment that often prevents young men from checking themselves or seeking medical advice. The week brings together charities\, healthcare providers\, and community organisations to spread the message that testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 15 to 44 – and that when caught early\, it is one of the most treatable forms of cancer. Key organisations behind the campaign include the Testicular Cancer Society\, the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation (TCAF)\, and in the UK\, The Urology Foundation and the charity Orchid. \nWhen is Testicular Cancer Awareness Week?\nTesticular Cancer Awareness Week falls on 1 to 7 April every year\, with the dates remaining fixed. In 2026\, it runs from Wednesday\, 1 April to Tuesday\, 7 April. The week also marks the beginning of Testicular Cancer Awareness Month\, which continues throughout the whole of April. \nWhy Testicular Cancer Awareness Week Matters\nAround 2\,400 men are diagnosed with testicular cancer in the UK each year\, according to Cancer Research UK. Globally\, incidence rates have been rising steadily in many Western countries over the past several decades\, though survival rates have improved dramatically. In the UK\, the ten-year survival rate now stands at 96.5%\, making testicular cancer one of the most survivable cancers – provided it is detected early. Despite this\, many young men remain unaware of the symptoms or feel too embarrassed to check themselves regularly. \nThe disease most commonly affects males between the ages of 15 and 45\, with nearly half of all UK diagnoses occurring in men under 35. Unlike many other cancers\, testicular cancer strikes during some of the most productive years of a man’s life\, affecting education\, careers\, relationships\, and family planning. Awareness campaigns during this week play a critical role in normalising conversations about testicular health and encouraging men to take a few minutes each month to perform a simple self-examination. If you are interested in broader men’s health topics\, Men’s Health Week in June is another important date in the calendar. \nHow to Get Involved in Testicular Cancer Awareness Week\nThere are many ways to support Testicular Cancer Awareness Week\, whether you are an individual\, a workplace\, or a community group: \n\nLearn how to self-examine – The most important action any man can take is learning how to check himself. The best time is during or just after a warm bath or shower\, when the scrotal skin is relaxed. Using both hands\, gently roll each testicle between your thumbs and fingers\, feeling for any hard lumps\, swelling\, or changes in size or shape. It takes less than two minutes.\nShare information on social media – Use the hashtags #TesticularCancerAwareness and #CheckYourself to spread the word. Organisations such as the Testicular Cancer Society run creative digital campaigns – including their acclaimed “Most Checked Balls On Earth” social media initiative – to reach younger audiences.\nTalk to the men in your life – Whether you are a parent\, partner\, friend\, or colleague\, starting a conversation about testicular health can make a real difference. Many men report that they only learned about self-checking because someone they trusted brought it up.\nOrganise a workplace awareness session – Contact charities like The Urology Foundation\, Orchid\, or the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation to request educational materials\, posters\, or speaker sessions for your workplace or university.\nFundraise for testicular cancer charities – Organise a sponsored event\, bake sale\, or challenge to raise funds for research and support services. The Testicular Cancer Society\, TCAF\, and Movember all accept donations year-round.\nWear the awareness ribbon – The orchid or purple ribbon is associated with testicular cancer awareness. Wearing one during the week helps signal your support and can spark conversations.\nEncourage GP visits – If you or someone you know notices any changes\, book a GP appointment promptly. Early referral to a specialist can make the difference between a straightforward treatment and a more complex one.\n\nHow to Perform a Testicular Self-Examination\nRegular self-examination is the single most effective way to detect testicular cancer early. Medical professionals recommend checking once a month. Here is a step-by-step guide based on guidance from Johns Hopkins Medicine\, the NHS\, and the Testicular Cancer Foundation: \n\nChoose the right time – Examine yourself during or immediately after a warm bath or shower. The heat relaxes the scrotum\, making it easier to feel for abnormalities.\nStand in front of a mirror – Look for any visible swelling or changes to the scrotal skin.\nExamine one testicle at a time – Hold the testicle between your thumbs and fingers with both hands\, and roll it gently. The testicle should feel smooth and firm\, but not hard.\nLocate the epididymis – This is the soft\, tube-like structure at the back of each testicle. It is normal and should not be mistaken for a lump.\nKnow what to look for – Any hard lump (usually painless and pea-sized)\, swelling\, change in size or shape\, or a feeling of heaviness in the scrotum should be reported to a doctor. It is normal for one testicle to be slightly larger or hang lower than the other.\n\nHistory of Testicular Cancer Awareness Week\nTesticular cancer awareness efforts gained momentum in the United States during the late 1990s and early 2000s\, driven by advocacy groups and cancer survivors. The Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation (TCAF) was established to promote education about the disease\, particularly among younger men who are at the highest risk. April was designated as Testicular Cancer Awareness Month\, with the first week of the month – 1 to 7 April – serving as a concentrated awareness push. \nA pivotal moment in the history of testicular cancer treatment came in 1974\, when Dr Lawrence Einhorn at Indiana University introduced cisplatin-based chemotherapy for testicular cancer. Before this breakthrough\, the disease had a mortality rate of over 90% in advanced cases. Einhorn’s protocol transformed testicular cancer into one of the most curable solid tumours\, with cure rates exceeding 95% for early-stage disease. This medical milestone underpins the central message of awareness campaigns: early detection saves lives. \nHigh-profile survivors have also helped raise the profile of testicular cancer awareness. Cyclist Lance Armstrong’s public battle with the disease in the late 1990s brought global attention\, while in the UK\, charities like Orchid (founded in 1996) and Orchid’s Male Cancer Awareness Week in September have helped normalise discussions around male cancers. Today\, awareness week campaigns span social media\, schools\, universities\, workplaces\, and sports clubs worldwide. \nNoteworthy Facts About Testicular Cancer\n\nTesticular cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men aged 15 to 44 in the UK and many other developed countries.\nAround 2\,400 new cases are diagnosed in the UK each year\, with approximately 70 deaths annually – a testament to high survival rates when treated promptly.\nThe ten-year survival rate for testicular cancer in the UK is 96.5%\, according to Cancer Research UK.\nDr Lawrence Einhorn’s cisplatin-based chemotherapy protocol\, introduced in 1974\, transformed the disease from frequently fatal to highly curable.\nThe Testicular Cancer Society’s “Most Checked Balls On Earth” social media campaign reached over 2 million people across 21 countries without any paid media spend.\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\nWhat is Testicular Cancer Awareness Week?\nTesticular Cancer Awareness Week is an annual health campaign held from 1 to 7 April. It promotes education about testicular cancer symptoms\, encourages regular self-examination\, and highlights the importance of early detection for successful treatment. \nWhen is Testicular Cancer Awareness Week in 2026?\nTesticular Cancer Awareness Week 2026 runs from Wednesday\, 1 April to Tuesday\, 7 April 2026. The dates are fixed each year. \nWhat are the main symptoms of testicular cancer?\nThe most common symptom is a painless lump or swelling on a testicle. Other signs include a change in the size or shape of a testicle\, a feeling of heaviness in the scrotum\, or a dull ache in the lower abdomen or groin. If you notice any of these\, see a doctor promptly – most lumps are not cancerous\, but early investigation is essential. \nWho is most at risk of testicular cancer?\nMen aged 15 to 44 are at the highest risk. Other risk factors include a family history of testicular cancer\, an undescended testicle (cryptorchidism)\, and a previous diagnosis in the other testicle. White men have a higher incidence rate than men of other ethnic backgrounds\, though the reasons for this are not fully understood. \nSpread the Word\nHelp raise awareness by sharing Testicular Cancer Awareness Week with your friends\, family\, and followers. Use the hashtags #TesticularCancerAwareness and #CheckYourself2026 on social media. The more people who know about the importance of self-examination\, the more lives can be saved through early detection. \nRelated Awareness Days\n\nBowel Cancer Awareness Month – Also held throughout April\, this campaign raises awareness of the UK’s fourth most common cancer and the importance of screening.\nMovember – The global men’s health movement each November\, tackling prostate cancer\, testicular cancer\, and mental health through fundraising and conversation.\nOrchid Male Cancer Awareness Week – Run by the UK charity Orchid each September\, this week highlights testicular\, prostate\, and penile cancers.\n\nLinks\n\nVisit the Testicular Cancer Society website\nTesticular Cancer Awareness Foundation (TCAF)\nThe Urology Foundation\nCancer Research UK – Testicular Cancer Statistics\nExplore more awareness days at AwarenessDays.com\n\nGet the 2026 ToolkitEvery awareness day in 2026 — spreadsheet\, PDF calendars\, iCal feed and unlimited reading. SUMMARY:Community Garden Week 2026
DESCRIPTION:What is Community Garden Week?\nCommunity Garden Week is an annual celebration of community and school gardens across the United Kingdom\, organised by Social Farms and Gardens\, a UK-wide charity that supports communities to garden\, farm\, and grow together. The week shines a spotlight on the incredible variety of community gardens that bring people together through the power of nature. \nCommunity gardens come in a myriad of shapes\, sizes\, and styles. From allotment sites and urban growing spaces to school gardens and therapeutic horticulture projects\, each one has a different heart and a unique mission. What they all share\, however\, is the ability to bring people together\, using nature to inspire\, heal\, and create happiness. \nWhen is Community Garden Week?\nCommunity Garden Week 2026 takes place from Tuesday 31 March to Monday 6 April. \n\n\n\nYear\nStart Date\nEnd Date\n\n\n\n\n2026\n31 March\n6 April\n\n\n2027\nTBC\nTBC\n\n\n2028\nTBC\nTBC\n\n\n\nWhy Community Garden Week Matters\nCommunity gardens deliver a remarkable range of benefits that extend far beyond simply growing food. Research consistently shows that community gardening improves both physical and mental health\, builds stronger social connections\, enhances local environments\, and contributes to food security. \nFor physical health\, gardening provides regular low-intensity exercise that can help reduce the risk of heart disease\, obesity\, and type 2 diabetes. It encourages people to spend time outdoors\, increasing exposure to natural light and fresh air. For mental wellbeing\, the therapeutic benefits of working with soil and plants are well documented\, with studies linking gardening to reduced stress\, anxiety\, and depression. \nCommunity gardens also serve as vital social spaces\, particularly for people who may be isolated or lonely. They bring together people of all ages\, backgrounds\, and abilities\, creating opportunities for socialising\, learning new skills\, and building a sense of belonging. For children\, school gardens provide hands-on learning experiences that connect classroom education with the natural world\, teaching them about food production\, ecology\, and environmental stewardship. \nIn urban areas\, community gardens play an especially important role. They transform underused or neglected land into productive green spaces\, improve local biodiversity\, reduce urban heat island effects\, and provide access to fresh\, locally grown food in areas where it may otherwise be scarce. \nHow to Get Involved\nThere are many ways to celebrate Community Garden Week. If you already belong to a community garden\, consider hosting an open day or event to welcome new visitors and potential volunteers. Sharing photos and stories from your garden on social media helps raise awareness of the movement and may inspire others to get involved. \nIf you do not have a community garden nearby\, Community Garden Week is the perfect time to explore starting one. Social Farms and Gardens offers advice\, resources\, and support to help communities establish new growing projects. Their network of more than 3\,000 members includes a wealth of experience and practical knowledge. \nSchools can use the week as an opportunity to launch or promote their school garden\, involving pupils in planting\, growing\, and harvesting activities. Local councils and housing associations can support the movement by making land available for community growing and promoting existing gardens in their area. \nAbout Social Farms and Gardens\nSocial Farms and Gardens is the UK-wide charity behind Community Garden Week. Formed from the merger of the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens and Care Farming UK\, the charity’s vision is for people and communities to reach their full potential through nature-based activities as a part of everyday life. The organisation works through projects and partnerships to promote community gardening and social farming across the country. \n#CommunityGardenWeek #CommunityGardening #GrowTogether \nGet the 2026 ToolkitEvery awareness day in 2026 — spreadsheet\, PDF calendars\, iCal feed and unlimited reading. SUMMARY:National Skipping Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:National Skipping Day will take place on Friday 24th March 2026 this year and is organised by Skipping Workshops. \nOver the years we have received a great deal of feedback from schools and it seems that participating schools fall into two groups: the first are those schools who promote playground skipping on a regular basis throughout the school year and see NSD as a means of celebrating this commitment . By contrast\, some schools don’t promote skipping throughout the school year but are happy to take part in NSD as a ‘one-off’ celebration of healthy exercise through skipping. The 2026 event is definitely of more interest to the first group (although we hope all schools will consider taking part.) \nFor schools taking part in the 2026 NSD we have developed a graded scheme of skills\, starting with challenges for Nursery and YR children moving forward to skills for children in Y5 & Y6 who have shown a commitment to developing skipping skills. There are 6 levels in all\, starting with ‘basic’ (for the youngest children) moving through to Level 5. For those children who complete the tasks in each level we have a certificate which we hope schools will present to those children who qualify. For each level we will send participating schools detailed staff notes to explain the various challenges. \nIf you register for NSD 2026 we will send you details of the skills involved in the basic level as well as Levels 1 & 2 plus a copy of the different certificates for each level. \nIf you feel able to host an all-day-skip visit from Skipping Workshops between now and the end of the academic year Book a visit with us and you will also receive a free set of double dutch ropes and a 7m long rope for your school.  \nGet the 2026 ToolkitEvery awareness day in 2026 — spreadsheet\, PDF calendars\, iCal feed and unlimited reading.
