SUMMARY:Coeliac Awareness Month 2026
DESCRIPTION:Coeliac Awareness Month is a global initiative observed each May to increase public understanding of coeliac disease – an autoimmune disorder where the ingestion of gluten leads to damage in the small intestine. The campaign promotes early diagnosis\, advocates for proper dietary management\, and supports the millions of people around the world who must follow a strict gluten-free diet to maintain their health. \nWhat is Coeliac Awareness Month?\nCoeliac Awareness Month is dedicated to raising awareness of coeliac disease\, also known as celiac disease in some countries. It is estimated to affect around 1 in 100 people\, though many remain undiagnosed. When someone with coeliac disease eats gluten – a protein found in wheat\, barley\, and rye – their immune system reacts by attacking the lining of the small intestine\, impairing nutrient absorption and causing a range of health problems. \nThe month-long campaign highlights common symptoms (such as bloating\, fatigue\, and digestive issues)\, the importance of proper diagnosis\, and the necessity of adhering to a lifelong gluten-free diet. It also aims to dispel myths\, reduce stigma\, and promote gluten-free inclusivity in food labeling\, catering\, and social settings. \nWhen is Coeliac Awareness Month?\nCoeliac Awareness Month is observed every year during the month of May. In 2026\, it runs from Thursday\, May 1st to Saturday\, May 31st. \nDuring this time\, health organizations\, charities\, and patient advocacy groups launch campaigns\, educational programs\, and fundraising events to improve awareness and drive change. \nHow to Take Part in Coeliac Awareness Month\nThere are many ways to get involved and show support for people living with coeliac disease: \n\nLearn the symptoms: Familiarize yourself with signs of coeliac disease and encourage friends and family to seek testing if they suspect it.\nSupport gluten-free initiatives: Choose restaurants and brands that offer certified gluten-free options and safe preparation practices.\nShare personal stories: Use blogs or social media to talk about life with coeliac disease and raise awareness in your community.\nDonate or fundraise: Support organizations like Coeliac UK or Beyond Celiac by raising funds for research and advocacy efforts.\nHost an event: Organize a gluten-free bake sale\, cooking class\, or educational talk at your workplace or local community centre.\n\nWhy Coeliac Awareness Month Matters\nRaising awareness about coeliac disease is vital because many people remain undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for years. Left untreated\, the condition can lead to serious health complications such as osteoporosis\, infertility\, neurological disorders\, and increased cancer risk. \nBy promoting understanding and early diagnosis\, Coeliac Awareness Month empowers individuals to take control of their health. It also fosters greater inclusion and accessibility in food service\, hospitality\, and public policy – ensuring those with coeliac disease can live safe\, healthy\, and socially fulfilling lives. \nRelevant Hashtags\n#CoeliacAwarenessMonth #GlutenFreeLife #CeliacAwareness #KnowCoeliac #CoeliacSupport #LivingGlutenFree \nRelevant Links\n\nCoeliac UK – Awareness Campaigns and Resources\nBeyond Celiac (USA)\nCanadian Celiac Association\n\nPlan your next campaignUse Awareness Planner to discover events\, build content calendars\, and stay ahead of key dates. SUMMARY:Hats For Headway 2026
DESCRIPTION:What is Hats for Headway?\nHats for Headway is an annual fundraising and awareness campaign run by Headway\, the brain injury association. The event encourages people across the United Kingdom to wear a wacky\, colourful\, or creative hat\, donate to Headway\, and share a photo on social media to raise awareness about brain injury and its lasting effects. \nThe campaign takes place at the end of Action for Brain Injury Week\, Headway’s flagship awareness week. By combining a fun\, accessible activity with a serious message\, Hats for Headway helps bring the issue of brain injury into public conversation while raising vital funds to support the charity’s work. \nWhen is Hats for Headway?\nHats for Headway Day takes place on the final Friday of Action for Brain Injury Week. In 2026\, it falls on Friday 16 May. \n\n\n\nYear\nDate\n\n\n\n\n2026\nFriday 16 May\n\n\n2027\nTBC\n\n\n2028\nTBC\n\n\n\nWhy Hats for Headway Matters\nBrain injury is often described as a hidden disability. While the effects can be profound and life-changing\, they are frequently invisible to others\, which can lead to misunderstanding and a lack of support for those affected. Hats for Headway plays an important role in making brain injury visible and starting conversations about its impact. \nThe statistics are striking. According to Headway\, there were 335\,409 UK hospital admissions for acquired brain injury in 2023-24\, which equates to approximately 919 admissions every day\, or one every 90 seconds. Brain injury costs the UK economy at least 43 billion pounds each year\, yet awareness of the condition and its consequences remains comparatively low. \nAcquired brain injury can result from a wide range of causes\, including falls\, road traffic accidents\, assaults\, strokes\, brain tumours\, and infections. The effects vary enormously depending on the type and severity of the injury\, but can include difficulties with memory\, concentration\, communication\, emotional regulation\, fatigue\, and physical coordination. Many brain injury survivors face long-term challenges that affect every aspect of their daily lives\, from maintaining employment to managing relationships. \nHow to Get Involved\nTaking part in Hats for Headway is straightforward. On the day\, simply wear a hat of your choice\, whether wacky\, creative\, or just plain silly\, and make a donation of 2 pounds to Headway. You can then share a photo of yourself and your hat on social media using the hashtag #HatsForHeadway to spread the word. \nSchools\, workplaces\, community groups\, and local Headway branches are all encouraged to organise their own Hats for Headway events. Headway provides downloadable campaign posters and other materials to help supporters promote the day. For print-ready copies of posters or additional campaign resources\, you can contact the fundraising team at fundraising.admin@headway.org.uk or call 0115 924 0800. \nBeyond the day itself\, supporters can help by learning more about brain injury and sharing what they learn with others. Headway operates a network of more than 118 local groups and branches across the UK\, providing support\, services\, and information to brain injury survivors\, their families\, and carers. Volunteering with or donating to a local Headway group is another meaningful way to make a difference. \nAbout Headway\nHeadway is the UK’s leading brain injury charity. The organisation works to improve life after brain injury through a combination of direct support services\, campaigning\, and public education. Headway’s services include a nurse-led helpline\, emergency fund for brain injury survivors in financial hardship\, and an extensive network of local groups providing rehabilitation and social support. \nEvery pound raised through campaigns like Hats for Headway helps fund these services and contributes to Headway’s mission of ensuring that brain injury survivors and their families receive the support and understanding they deserve. Research has shown that every 1 pound spent on brain injury rehabilitation delivers up to 16 pounds in savings across the NHS\, social care\, and the wider economy. \n#HatsForHeadway #BrainInjury #ActionForBrainInjury \nPlan your next campaignUse Awareness Planner to discover events\, build content calendars\, and stay ahead of key dates.
