Last year we encouraged people to ‘do something new‘ which generated our most creative and diverse programme yet, launching another 20 years of doorstep discoveries!

This isn’t about starting from scratch but an opportunity to refresh, reinvigorate and re-interpret our places, sites and events.

  • Take inspiration from our Do something new blog posts
  • Become a Get Creative champion: Heritage Open Days is proud to be a national champion of Get Creative, a campaign in association with BBC Arts. If your event will be bringing history to life in a creative way and engaging people in creative activities, then why not sign up too and reach a whole new audience!
  • Love architecture? Have a site with a special architectural interest? Then maybe you can connect your site with RIBA and celebrate it for Heritage Open Days.Take a snap of your event or visit and post it on Instagram or tweet us all about it! @heritageopenday #dsnew
  • Go global: 13 September 2015 was another #makeheritagefun day, encouraging young people all over the world to engage with their local heritage and share their experiences on social media. Use the #tag to make heritage trend.
  • There were ideas aplenty at the Organiser fairs, which took place across the country in March. Access the presentations by logging into the organiser area in our ‘useful stuff’ section.
  • Learn about our birthday celebrations, and be inspired by the work of some of our award winners!
