What is National Day of Clean?

National Day of Clean was created to recognize and elevate the power of cleaning as an act of service, one that reflects care, dignity, and responsibility for the communities we share. The day is part of Realize the Dream, a national movement founded by Martin Luther King III, Arndrea Waters King, and Yolanda Renee King to inspire service and collective action across the country.

Realize the Dream is a national movement created in collaboration between the Martin Luther King III Foundation and Legacy+, a 501(c)(3) organization, working to mobilize 100 million hours of service by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 100th birthday in 2029. National Day of Clean contributes to this vision by creating a simple, accessible way for people everywhere to participate in service – caring for the spaces where life happens every day. Supported by Clorox, the day helps expand participation and access to service opportunities nationwide.

National Day of Clean calls on individuals, organizations, and communities across the country to step forward in service by caring for the spaces we all rely on. By encouraging people to roll up their sleeves and clean schools, parks, shelters, and neighborhoods, the day highlights cleaning as a meaningful act of service that strengthens shared spaces and supports the people who depend on them.

At its core, the day reflects a simple truth: when we care for the places around us, we care for each other. Clean, well-maintained environments support learning, well-being, connection, and community pride — making acts of service like cleaning both practical and impactful.

When is National Day of Clean?

Observed annually on March 19, at the start of spring, National Day of Clean aligns with a natural season of renewal and serves as a nationwide call to action for people to serve their communities by caring for the spaces we all share.
