National Honey Bee Day is an awareness day for the bees. The event was started in 2009 by beekeepers of the United States to promote and educate public about the bee industry.

This event is annually observed on the third Saturday in August. A small group of beekeepers petitioned a formal proclamation of National Honey Bee day by the USDA in 2009. That year the first observance of this event took place on August 22, that was the fourth Saturday in August.

The next year the observance was promoted and facilitated by a non-profit organization Pennsylvania Apiculture Inc., and the date of event was moved to the third Saturday in August.Bees play a very important role in our life.

The thing is not in production of honey, but in pollination of a large varieties of plants. They pollinate almost all crops and trees, thus we may enjoy different vegetables and fruits. Without bees we would have nothing to eat. Moreover, their work is free, but the service of pollination is valued in billions of dollars.National Honey Bee Day is annually observed to educate people about the importance of honey bees. This event also promotes the work of beekeepers, making it more popular among the Americans.
