About Never Give Up Day 2026
What is Never Give Up Day?
Never Give Up Day is an international awareness day celebrated on 18 August every year. The day honours the spirit of perseverance, resilience and determination, encouraging people around the world to keep pursuing their goals, supporting their loved ones and standing firm in the face of adversity. It is both a personal celebration and a global movement, recognising the strength it takes to overcome challenges in all areas of life.
Whether it is a personal struggle, a professional setback, a health battle or a commitment to a cause, Never Give Up Day provides a moment to pause, reflect and celebrate the power of not giving in. The day’s central message is simple but powerful: persistence matters, and every step forward counts.

Why Never Give Up Day Matters
Life presents challenges to everyone, regardless of background, age or circumstances. From students working through difficult exams to entrepreneurs rebuilding after failure, from carers supporting loved ones through illness to individuals recovering from personal loss, the ability to persevere is a quality that unites people across all walks of life.
Never Give Up Day recognises that behind every success story there is usually a journey of setbacks, doubt and hard work. The day encourages people to share these stories openly, creating a sense of solidarity and mutual support. It also serves as a reminder that asking for help, adapting your approach and taking things one step at a time are all valid expressions of perseverance.
The day has resonated strongly with communities including parents, survivors, students, caregivers, entrepreneurs and activists. It has also been embraced by businesses and organisations as an opportunity to celebrate resilience, share purpose-driven messages and connect with their audiences around values of determination and hope.
History of Never Give Up Day
Never Give Up Day was founded by Alain Horoit in 2019. Horoit’s personal journey was a significant inspiration for the initiative. After spending 20 years building a business from the ground up, he lost everything to bankruptcy. Rather than letting that experience define him, he channelled it into creating a global movement celebrating the human capacity to endure and recover.
Initially, Never Give Up Day was a small, grassroots effort. However, Horoit worked tirelessly to gain official recognition, reaching out to cities and municipalities across North America. By 2022, the day had gained significant momentum, with cities across the United States and Canada issuing proclamations recognising 18 August as Never Give Up Day.
As of 2026, the day has been officially recognised by over 137 cities in the United States and Canada, and its reach continues to grow across Europe, Asia, Australia and Latin America. The movement has attracted media attention across print, digital and broadcast platforms, and the Never Give Up Day Foundation continues to expand its global presence.
