What is International Stress Awareness Week?
International Stress Awareness Week is an annual campaign created and led by ISMA UK, the International Stress Management Association. It brings attention to stress, mental wellbeing and healthier ways of working, with activities involving employers, practitioners and communities.
A week gives an organisation time to connect listening with action: identify a concern, discuss possible changes and explain what will happen next. The most useful programme is one people can participate in without adding avoidable pressure to their existing work.
What is the 2026 theme?
The theme is “Shaping the Future of Stress and Wellbeing: Rehumanising the Workplace”. It provides a starting point for discussing how work is organised and how people experience change, support and communication.
Choose a relevant question for your own setting. A small team might examine how urgent tasks are allocated. A larger organisation might review how staff can raise a concern during a restructuring or technology change.
When is International Stress Awareness Week 2026?
The confirmed dates are 2–6 November 2026, as published on ISMA UK’s website. National Stress Awareness Day falls on Wednesday 4 November within the week.
Use the announced dates for this year. The campaign’s official information page provides current activities and resources; check it again before planning a future year.
A five-day workplace programme
The outline below is our planning suggestion, rather than an official timetable. Leave room to adapt it to shift patterns, remote work and access needs.
Monday 2 November: explain the purpose
Publish a short invitation describing the week, the question you are examining and the private routes for support. Tell people whether sessions are optional and how their feedback will be used. Avoid launching a survey unless someone has capacity to read and act on it.
Tuesday 3 November: listen to working experience
Ask about a defined area, such as deadlines, unclear responsibilities or support during change. Offer more than one way to contribute. Explain the limits of anonymity rather than promising complete confidentiality in a small group.
Wednesday 4 November: discuss what needs to change
Use Stress Awareness Day for a focused discussion of the findings. Separate actions the team can take from decisions that need a manager or another department. Record the question clearly enough that someone who was absent can understand it.
Thursday 5 November: turn feedback into a plan
Assign an owner to each agreed action and identify the time or resources it needs. A realistic trial with a review date is more useful than an extensive list of promises without responsibility.
Friday 6 November: report back
Explain what was heard, what will change and what remains unresolved. Keep personal information out of the update. Book a follow-up beyond the campaign week and make the support information easy to find afterwards.
Keeping the programme accessible
Make written information available to colleagues who cannot attend live. Give notice of discussions and allow people to step out or ask questions privately. Do not make a personal story, a group exercise or an additional unpaid task a condition of participation.
For an individual health concern, the NHS provides information on stress and getting help. Campaign activities should point to appropriate support rather than attempt to assess or treat participants.
Official events and resources
ISMA’s online Global Stress & Wellbeing Summit is scheduled for Wednesday 4 November 2026. It is a ticketed event with its own programme and viewing arrangements. Check the organiser’s current details before booking; general participation in the awareness week does not require a summit ticket.
For workplace action, the HSE stress hub links to risk-assessment guidance, employee information and Management Standards. Use relevant specialist guidance when considering changes to working conditions.
Reviewed 23 October 2026. Confirmed ISMA dates, theme and summit arrangements; added a distinct five-day workplace planning guide and reliable support resources.
