History of the Event

Founded by Joe White, a Vietnam War veteran and K9 handler, K9 Veterans Day was initiated to commemorate the service and sacrifices of United States military and working dogs. March 13 was chosen because it marks the official establishment of the US Army K9 Corps in 1942. Over the years, the significance of this day has grown, bringing attention to the multifaceted roles these dogs play, both in and out of combat.
