What is happening in 2026?

Alongside activity across 1–30 November, Blue Wednesday falls on Wednesday 18 November 2026. It gives supporters a shared day to highlight the campaign and direct people to the foundation’s mouth-awareness information.

The campaign website includes the Blue Ribbon Appeal, fundraising ideas and information resources. Use its current pages when planning an activity, since available materials and individual events can change.

Mouth Cancer Action Month runs throughout November 2026. The UK campaign is organised by the Oral Health Foundation and encourages people to be mouthaware: learn about mouth cancer, recognise when to seek advice and support awareness work.

The foundation identifies the Mouth Cancer Foundation as the campaign’s sponsor. Dental practices, community groups, workplaces and individuals can take part using the organiser’s materials and participation ideas.

Ideas for dental teams

A useful awareness display should help someone do something, such as find reliable information or ask their dental team a question. It does not need to fill an entire reception area.

  • Choose one message: use a current campaign poster and a clearly labelled link to the foundation’s information.
  • Offer more than a QR code: include a readable web address and printed information for people who prefer it.
  • Prepare the team: agree who can answer campaign questions and how clinical concerns should be passed to an appropriate professional.
  • Keep conversations private: offer a way to ask about a concern without discussing personal symptoms across a waiting room.

The foundation’s event resources page describes campaign packs and display materials. Check what is included and any charges before ordering; an awareness activity does not require buying a pack.

Ideas for workplaces and community groups

You could share the campaign website in a newsletter, arrange an optional fundraiser or make a small information display with permission from the venue. Name the campaign and the charity receiving any donations, and give readers one clear next step.

If you use blue ribbons or a Blue Wednesday activity, explain their connection to mouth cancer awareness. A photograph of colleagues wearing blue needs a caption and an information link to make its purpose clear. Ask permission before photographing people and offer a way to participate without appearing online.

Finding health information

The campaign website links to information about symptoms, risk factors and checking your mouth. Follow the organiser’s full guidance rather than a shortened social-media version. An awareness activity should not become an informal examination or a diagnosis.

If you are worried about a change in your mouth, contact a dentist or GP for advice. Do not wait for Blue Wednesday or an awareness event to raise a concern. Someone receiving care should take individual questions to their own healthcare team.

After November

Keep the trusted information link available, thank supporters and report any funds raised accurately. For a dental practice, a useful follow-up is asking the reception team which questions came up, then making the relevant patient information easier to find.
