About UNICEF Day for Change: fundraising guide
UNICEF Day for Change is associated with fundraising and learning activities supporting children. We have not verified a current 2026 campaign fixed to 11 December. This guide explains the historical activity and links current UNICEF UK fundraising information so groups can plan their own event.
What was Day for Change?
UNICEF UK’s 2016 Day for Change guide invited people to collect change and organise activities at home, work or in their community. It gave Friday 13 May as that edition’s official date, while allowing participants to choose another day.
That is historical campaign material, not confirmation of a 2026 programme. Old lesson slides, email addresses and paying-in details should not be assumed to remain current simply because the files are still online.
How is this different from UNICEF’s anniversary?
UNICEF was founded on 11 December 1946, as its own anniversary account confirms. That organisational anniversary does not establish 11 December as the annual date of Day for Change.
Our earlier article combined the two, gave an unsupported campaign-origin story and described a global programme without adequate evidence. A school or community fundraiser can still be worthwhile, with its own clearly stated date and purpose.
Plan a fundraiser using current information
- Start with UNICEF UK. Read its current fundraising FAQs for resources, online fundraising and how to pay in money.
- Choose a manageable activity. Agree the date, location, costs and responsibilities with the group before promoting it.
- Make the beneficiary clear. State which UNICEF organisation receives the money and use the route it currently provides.
- Keep a record. Record money collected, pass it on through the agreed route and share an accurate total with supporters.
Include learning and choice
Choose one current UNICEF resource about children’s rights or its work and discuss what it establishes. Avoid suggesting that a particular coin automatically buys a specific item unless the charity supplies an applicable, current explanation.
Keep contributions voluntary. Children and adults should be able to join an activity without donating, explaining their finances or appearing in photographs. Ask permission before sharing names, images or personal accounts.
Describe the event as your group’s fundraiser unless UNICEF confirms a particular campaign connection. Check current charity guidance before using logos or presenting an old activity pack as an official 2026 kit.
