What is World Diabetes Day?

World Diabetes Day is an international awareness campaign led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). It gives people living with diabetes, communities, healthcare organisations and campaigners a shared date for awareness and action.

The 2026–2027 theme: Early action on diabetes

The official 2026–2027 theme is Early action on diabetes. IDF’s campaign focuses on early diagnosis and risk reduction. Use #WorldDiabetesDay and the current campaign tag #ActEarlyOnDiabetes when sharing its materials. Clinical questions should be answered using the organiser’s health resources or a qualified healthcare professional, rather than advice created for a marketing campaign.

Planning World Diabetes Day at work

  • Choose a practical objective. Decide whether you will share official resources, support a named charity or host a voluntary awareness session.
  • Prepare in advance. Ask for permission to display materials, check access arrangements and schedule posts with a link to the original campaign.
  • Protect privacy. Do not ask colleagues to reveal a diagnosis, test results or personal health information. Invite contributions without putting anyone on the spot.
  • Use qualified expertise. If you arrange a health talk, let a suitably qualified speaker handle medical questions. A workplace fundraiser is not a diagnostic service.
  • Make the next step clear. Tell participants where official information can be found and how any money raised will reach the named beneficiary.

Ideas for schools and community groups

Use age-appropriate resources from a trusted diabetes organisation. An optional blue-themed display, a resource-sharing session or a charity fundraiser can make the date visible. Check dietary, access and participation needs without making assumptions about individuals. Obtain permission before sharing anyone’s story or photograph.

If organising a public activity, consult IDF’s official participation guidance and activity listing. Local events have their own organisers and arrangements; verify those details directly.

Official posters, logos and campaign resources

The World Diabetes Day resource hub offers posters, infographics, logos, toolkits, videos and social graphics. Check the resource’s language, year and usage instructions before downloading or adapting it. The get involved page also links to the activity submission route and ways to share experiences.
