Action For Brain Injury Awareness Week 2018

Loading Events

An annual campaign to raise awareness of the devastating effects of brain injury, ABI Week is organised by one of the leading charities in the field, Headway.

Action for Brain Injury Week takes place 8-14 May, and launches Headway’s latest – A new Me – to increase understanding of the hidden effects of brain injury.

Research undertaken by Headway shows that some people struggle to come to terms with the new person they have become, whilst others positively embrace the change.  There is no escaping the fact that brain injury can affect personality as well as cognitive and physical abilities, which can impact dramatically on relationships and support networks.

The study found that 74% of brain injured survivors feel like a ‘new person’ following their injury.  77% feel that friends and family don’t understand the effects of injury, and 81% felt that their lives would be improved if people had a better understanding of brain injury.
