Action For Brain Injury Week is a week-long awareness raising event that takes place between the 20th and 26th May 2019. Also known as ABI Week, the event is organised by Headway, a leading charity that is dedicated to promoting understanding of all aspects of brain injury.
For 2018, the theme of ABI week was “You, Me, and Brain Injury”. This theme was chosen to highlight the effect that brain injury can have not only on the individual but also their relationships with friends, family and colleagues. A social media campaign with this theme took place, allowing anyone affected by brain injury to share their story.
A number of events took place during the week including fundraising events, special stories in the media and the popular Hats For Headway Day on Friday 18th May. On this day participants got involved to raise money, and awareness about brain injures by donating £1 to the charity, wearing a wacky hat and posting a picture on social media using the hashtag #HatsForHeadway. Everyone who took part in Hats For Headway has the opportunity to win afternoon tea for two at the Dorchester Hotel in London.
