National Irish-American Heritage Month 2027

When is National Irish-American Heritage Month?

Every March, paralleling the festivities of St. Patrick’s Day, the United States takes a moment to delve deeper into the legacy and celebrate the entirety of Irish-American contributions throughout the month.

How to Get Involved

If you’re keen on immersing yourself in the celebrations, here’s your guide:

• Attend Parades and Festivals: Cities across the U.S. host parades and events to honor Irish-American culture.
• Explore Irish Music and Dance: Attend a traditional music session or try your hand (or foot) at Irish dance.
• Delve into History: Visit local museums or attend talks that highlight the Irish-American experience.
• Culinary Adventures: Enjoy traditional Irish meals or host an Irish-themed potluck with friends and family.
• Engage on Social Media: Share stories, historical facts, and personal reflections on what Irish-American heritage means to you.

History of the Event

National Irish-American Heritage Month traces its origins back to 1991 when the U.S. Congress officially proclaimed March as the designated month of celebration. This formal recognition was a testament to the significant impact of Irish immigrants and their descendants on American society, culture, and history. The choice of March, with St. Patrick’s Day at its heart, aligns with both religious and cultural celebrations of the Irish diaspora.
