January 24 is National Peanut Butter Day! Why oh why are all these food awareness days in January when we are trying to be good?! At least in moderation peanut butter could be considered a healthier option than some other foods!
Peanut butter is a classic American food, first patented in 1884, so why don’t you get spreading the delicious American favourite and support local businesses and commerce by doing so at the same time?
Over the years there have been many attempts to manufacture THE BEST peanut butter. Canadian Marcellus Edson made cooled product of peanuts and sugar, that had a consistency like that of butter. John Kellog used boiled peanuts for his own peanut butter and George Bayle tended to making peanut butter with roasted peanuts.
It took until 1923 when Heinz cracked the recipe as know it today, and the result is that peanut butter is a product that over 90% of American families now cannot live without.
Did you know that peanut butter is cholesterol free and it’s a great source of protein? Or that it takes 550 peanuts to make a 12oz jar of peanut butter? Feel free to share these useless bits of information with your friends 😉
Smooth or chunky, there is never not a perfect time for peanut butter. Celebrate National Peanut Butter Day with some peanut butter spread on your toast or just with a spoonful right from the jar. And remember, that it takes 550 peanuts to make a 12-ounce jar of creamy peanut butter.
