Support without pressure
If someone chooses to talk, listen without asking them to supply details for your understanding. Ask what would help and respect their choices about seeking support. Do not turn their account into an awareness post or an example for a group.
A campaign activity should never depend on people disclosing an experience, reporting to police or speaking publicly. Let participants step away, decline a discussion or take information privately.
A practical activity for organisations
- Check your information. Replace old contact sheets with links to current specialist services and record when they were checked.
- Provide private access. Make information easy to take away without a public sign-up sheet or a request to explain why it is needed.
- Use specialist resources. Agree the purpose and content of any session with a qualified service rather than improvising exercises around personal experiences.
