About World Day for Assistive Technology 2027
What is World Day for Assistive Technology?
World Day for Assistive Technology aims to raise awareness of the importance of assistive technology and the urgent need to improve access to it in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Globally, 2.5 billion people need one or more assistive products. Access to these products is a human right – however today only 10% of people in low-income countries can access the assistive technology they need, compared to 90% in high-income countries.
Assistive technology (AT) refers to assistive products such as wheelchairs, eye glasses, hearing aids, artificial limbs and digital devices and their related systems and services that enable people to move, communicate and see better than before. These products enable people to live healthier and more independent lives, working, studying and enjoying the everyday moments that many of us take for granted.
When is World Day for Assistive Technology?
World Day for Assistive Technology is observed on the 4th of June. In 2027 it falls on Friday, 4 June, as part of the Unlock the Everyday campaign, uniting people, organizations and companies from all sectors around the world.
How to get involved in World Day for Assistive Technology 2027
Together, we are calling for organizations, policymakers and the public to show their support, take action to improve access to assistive technology, and help unlock a world where there are opportunities for all.
We are also asking businesses around the world to show their support for World Day for Assistive Technology. Some of the ways organizations and individuals can show their support for World Day for Assistive Technology are:
- Share the Unlock the Everyday assets promoting World Day for Assistive Technology on your social channels along with your own supporting messages
- Publicly pledge your support and commitment to improving access to assistive technology
- Publicly call on policymakers to prioritize funding and resources to improve access to safe, affordable and appropriate assistive technology
- Use the hashtag #UnlockTheEveryday and #WorldATDay to show your support on social media.
