The day, week and month

The European Dyslexia Association’s awareness page distinguishes Dyslexia Awareness Month in October, the 2026 awareness week on 5–11 October and the day on 8 October. National organisations may run their own activities and themes. A theme published for one country or a previous year should not be presented as a single worldwide theme.

For example, Dyslexia Ireland’s 2026 day campaign focused on evidence-informed teaching and teacher training. That is an identified national campaign, rather than an invented universal slogan.

What can schools and employers do?

  • Ask about access needs. Offer a choice of ways to read, receive information and respond. Do not assume that one adjustment works for every person.
  • Check everyday materials. Review forms, instructions, application processes and learning resources with the people who use them.
  • Use current national resources. Link to the relevant dyslexia association, and check the date and terms of use of its teaching materials or campaign graphics.
  • Include lived experience with permission. Invite contributions without expecting an individual to represent everyone with dyslexia or disclose a diagnosis publicly.

Understanding and support

Dyslexia is not a measure of a person’s worth or intelligence. Equally, people should not have to demonstrate a particular talent or a success story to receive support. The British Dyslexia Association provides UK information about dyslexia, assessment and support. The EDA links readers to its member associations across Europe.

An awareness activity can improve a conversation about accessibility, but it is not a diagnostic test. Decisions about assessment and individual support belong with appropriate education or qualified assessment services.

Official resources

Use the EDA’s campaign resources for its dates and materials, and identify any national theme by organisation and year. Follow the owner’s permission rules for logos and graphics.
