What is World Cancer Day?
World Cancer Day is an international awareness campaign on 4 February, led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). It brings people and organisations together to support those affected by cancer and campaign for better cancer care. Planning World Cancer Day at work or in your community
- Choose a clear purpose. Decide whether your activity will signpost support, raise funds for a named charity or share the official campaign’s call to action.
- Use the organiser’s materials. Start with World Cancer Day’s official site and link readers to the original campaign rather than copying unsourced health facts.
- Make participation optional. Invite a speaker or voluntary contribution without asking colleagues, pupils or supporters to disclose a diagnosis or bereavement.
- Explain fundraising clearly. Name the beneficiary and use its official donation instructions. A dress-down day, quiz or community event can support a chosen charity without being presented as an official UICC event.
- Plan a useful follow-up. After 4 February, share the resources used, the amount raised where relevant and the next action your organisation has agreed to take.
The 2025–2027 campaign: United by Unique
UICC’s 2025–2027 campaign is United by Unique. Its focus is people-centred cancer care: recognising people’s individual experiences rather than treating a diagnosis as their whole story. The official roadmap describes 2027 as a year for turning those experiences into action.
Use #WorldCancerDay and #UnitedByUnique when sharing material from the current campaign. Check the organiser’s site for the latest artwork and instructions before scheduling posts or printing materials.
Information for schools
Keep activities age-appropriate and focused on kindness, inclusion and supporting people. Give families notice of sensitive topics. Use a trusted charity’s educational resources and your school’s pastoral arrangements rather than asking pupils to share personal medical experiences.
