About Digital Learning Day

Digital Learning Day highlights thoughtful use of technology in teaching and learning. Founded in the United States by All4Ed, the observance gives educators and communities a moment to share practical examples of learning, access and participation.

When is Digital Learning Day?

All4Ed identifies the second Thursday in February and explicitly lists the 2027 date as 11 February. The observance originated in the US; educators elsewhere can use it as a planning prompt without treating it as an official event in their own school calendar.

This year's campaign

The official All4Ed page lists 11 February 2027 and explains an important change: from 2026, All4Ed no longer provides formal programming for the day. It encourages the community to continue sharing effective digital learning throughout the year. This page does not promise an organiser-run 2027 festival, programme or theme.

Classroom and library activities

  • Create a short explanation. Invite students to explain a familiar concept through text, audio or a small digital presentation. Discuss which format suits the audience and why.
  • Compare information sources. Examine who created two sources, what evidence they provide and how to check an unfamiliar claim. Focus on the reasoning rather than a race to find an answer.
  • Build an accessible resource. Review a class document for readable structure, useful headings and meaningful image descriptions. Ask learners which changes make it easier to use.
  • Share a learning process. Show drafts, revisions and feedback as well as the finished work. Discuss where a tool helped and where another approach would work better.
  • Offer a non-digital route. Make sure the activity’s essential learning remains available when someone cannot use the chosen technology.

Ideas for teachers, families and school leaders

Teachers can share a lesson that worked well and explain the specific learning problem it addressed. A short staff discussion can consider accessibility, workload and student feedback before a tool is adopted more widely. Use the school’s approved systems and normal privacy arrangements.

Families could ask a child to demonstrate a tool used in class or explain how they check a piece of information. Keep the emphasis on understanding and confidence rather than buying a new application or increasing screen time for its own sake.

School leaders can review whether published instructions and resources are easy for families to access. Provide a contact route for people who need another format or help using an approved platform. A small improvement to access can be a worthwhile outcome from the day.

What should digital learning focus on?

Start with the learning goal, then decide whether a digital tool helps. A useful activity could let students explain an idea in another format, work together on a project or access material that would otherwise be difficult to use. Adding a device alone does not guarantee a better lesson.

Consider access before asking a class to participate. Check whether students have suitable equipment, connectivity, assistive tools and an alternative way to complete the task. A plan that depends on everyone having a particular device at home can leave some learners out.
