I’m Just Me Because Month is observed throughout October each year. It invites people to express their individuality, build self-esteem and challenge the stereotypes that hold others back. What is I’m Just Me Because Month?
I’m Just Me Because Month is an awareness campaign that encourages people of all ages to embrace who they are and to celebrate what makes them unique. It promotes individual development, fosters environments that break down stereotypes, and supports better self-esteem and mental wellbeing. The observance is closely tied to the work of the I’m Just Me Movement, which delivers mentoring, workshops and presentations in schools, workplaces and communities.
When is I’m Just Me Because Month?
I’m Just Me Because Month runs throughout October every year. In 2026 it spans the full month, from Thursday, 1 October to Saturday, 31 October. It is a fixed observance covering the whole of October rather than a single date.
Why I’m Just Me Because Month Matters
Bullying and low self-esteem remain serious issues for young people in particular. The I’m Just Me Movement works from the belief that the cycle of bullying is best broken by helping people feel confident in who they are, on the basis that those who feel good about themselves are less likely to put others down. By encouraging self-acceptance and respect for difference, the month supports both individual mental wellbeing and more compassionate, inclusive communities. Expressing who we genuinely are, the movement argues, goes a long way to improving and maintaining mental wellness.

History of I’m Just Me Because Month
The observance grew out of the experiences of the Culbreath family. In 2013 they created a fundraiser to help with the costs of supporting their son, Rze Culbreath, after he graduated, at a time when his mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer. They named the effort the I’m Just Me Movement.
In November 2015 the I’m Just Me Movement became a registered non-profit organisation with a mission of spreading awareness and breaking down stereotypes. Its founders deliver mentoring, workshops and presentations focused on inclusion, diversity, bullying and self-esteem.
In 2016, National Day Calendar joined with the movement to establish I’m Just Me Because Month for October, giving the cause a dedicated place on the awareness calendar and a platform to reach a wider audience each year.
